I very much doubt the Australian DVD is going to be dubbed. Basically I'm expecting that we'll get the exact contents of the UK disc, which is pretty much what we got with Thunderdome and Mad Max 2. Sorry, that should be "Road Warrior" I guess! Mad Max 2 was ALWAYS Mad Max 2 in this country, but I challenge you to find a current version out there now that doesn't bear the "Road Warrior" on screen title, we even get that version on TV now.


I agree with Wrinkles' comments above - it's pretty sad when the country that made these films gets the bottom of the barrel left overs, especially when there's plenty of material out there for an over the top SE disc to be produced. Obviously there are costs involved in doing extras, but if a lesser known film like The Man From Hong Kong can get a commentary track with Grant Page and Hugh Keays Byrne, surely the same thing could have been afforded for the Mad Max disc.

Are the distributors / rights owners different from here in the States? I think we got some GREAT content on our disk.

Yes they are different.

Well then, can you get "chips" to enable your DVD machines to play region 1 disks? I know this is possible here, though some electronics knowledge is needed to install them. Not being terribly knowledgable on the subject myself, I don't know how involved the process is. I would think you can buy R-1disks fairly easily over the net. ( If you are really rabid to get the bonus materials and aren't offered them there.)

I'm in Australia, I have a multi-region DVD player, and I have a copy of the Region 1 MM1 SE, which I purchased over the counter in Elizabeth St. Melbourne.


I am still interested in the region 4 disc because:


1) it might have some interesting extras which are different to the region 1 disc,

2) it will be in PAL format, which is higher resolution than NTSC.

Was your machine an over the counter purchase, or did you have it modified?

It's an Apex AD600A, which came with the famous "loophole menu" so that you could manually select your region. I have since modified it with a hacked firmware ROM which is "region-free".

My DVD player is an Apex model also,the Apex AD 1500.It plays EVERYTHING!DVD's,VCD's,MP3's burned disc's PAl and NTSC,has 8x zoom and the best part....it only cost $80.00! US,of course.Bill

If you're in Australia and you want your DVD player to be region-free, contact the manufacturer by phone. There is a good chance they can send you a DVD that you simply place into your drive, follow some simple instructions, and bingo!


I got MM1 from Amazon last week and it is awesome! Great extras and commentary track (what is going on with John Jarret's hair???). And I can now order DVDs from anywhere in the world.


Mine is a Panasonic, and a friend with a Pioneer has done the same thing. And it didn't cost us a cent.

My DVD player is an XMS150, that I brought from Strathfield Car Radios for $190. Also if you check out their webpage http://www.strathfield.com.au ,they have an FAQ section on DVD players that tells you the codes on how to multi region several DVD players. It works with my region 1 Mad Max DVD.
