The "new" Max and the current status of FR
The trilogy has been properly closed by Thunderdome, and "our" original Max Rockatansky is left wandering forever in the Wasteland. The series is over.
FURY ROAD is a stand-alone reboot that could originate new sequels. It features an alternative Wasteland where the events occurred differently or similarly to the first Wasteland history narrated by George Miller. And, of course, it features a different Max. It's a parallel Earth, a concept very popular with viewers today.
This means there's no continuity to respect anymore. It could have been a batteriological war and not a nuclear one to cause the apocalypse. It could have been a "breakdown" of the civilization like previously hinted by MM2. Maybe the MFP is still out of there, somewhere in the Wasteland. There could be no Bartertown involved, maybe Bartertown never was created in the first place.
Max has DIFFERENT parents, and he resembles Tom Hardy, not Mel Gibson. His genetics is totally different.
He could be younger or older, with or without damaged eye, with or without white streaks in the hair, with or without some parts in his "costume". His past could be different from Max Prime's one. Maybe his wife wasn't called "Jessie" but "Rosemary". Got my point?
This is a parallel Earth. It's not a sequel of the classic saga. This is a totally new kind of reboot, because no reboot was to be conceived and filmed by the same original author of the original movie(s) before this. Don't expect any continuity with its "predecessors" because this movie has no "predecessors". The original trilogy featuring Max Prime is left UNTOUCHED.
So, that's why the Last V8 Interceptor could exist "again": maybe, in THIS new Wasteland, the car was never destroyed by Wez and the Mohawkers. Maybe there had never been a Humungus gang to begin with. The events of 'The Road Warrior' never happened, or happened differently, or happened similarly.
... okay?

Wait for the next announcement from Kennedy Miller, Uncle. Who knows??... Mel is maybe not really out yet.

Believe me, I'm gonna cry if that happens. God only knows how much I love this saga...

I understand how you feel... I feel the same way, although I'm more or less disconnected from this project since the possible Mel's non-involvement... These days should be a great joy for a Max fan like me, but it is only disappointment and sadness... but I have faith
the first incarnation of Fury Road showed us anything is possible...
Oh... and your idea, from another board, of Max's plastic surgery is a good one

Wow - you're going really far to try and justify this whole 'reboot' theory of yours, despite the absence of any real evidence in support of it, and all because the previous leading man isn't coming back.

Re: The "new" Max and the current status of FR
Cast interviews have stated that Mad Max 4 takes place directly after Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. It is possible in the Mad Max universe that more than one BOB was built, or one that was 'finished'. Maybe they still had parts to build one more, but the one Max stole was the first completed one. Also maybe they just told Max there was one so he would stay, or maybe it was the last V8 for his stationed sector. There could be dozens of explanations about the Interceptor. But I'm slightly worried just like you.

I think what we should be expecting is something more like a "vague sequel" along the lines of how Superman Returns was intended: it honored and referenced the Donner/Reeve Superman films and was, in a sense, a part of them, but was at the same time very much its own thing.
So do I think Fury Road's going to follow the continuity of the original films? Certainly. About as strictly as each of the original films did, and honestly that's -almost- as loose as Leone's Dollars trilogy. And that's why I think the Interceptor's back, because Fury Road is, I just bet, going to be "vaguely" set somewhere between MM1 and MM 2. I know the trade papers have said its "shortly after the events of Thunderdome", but has anyone actually seen/heard/read any instance of Miller himself saying this?
Any talk of "alternate realities" and so on is basically fan-fiction and unnecessary, IMO and no offense. Its simply a sequel/prequel/midquel(?) made 25 years after the last installment in the series with new actors, which makes it both a new installment and a fresh start (without starting over) at the same time. Is it hard to imagine someone else playing Max? -Crap yes-. But that's all it is, someone else playing Max. No sense in trying to square it all up with parallel Earths and so on.

Yes. So my perspective is just a sci-fi way to say: mix between sequel and reboot.MasterOgami wrote:I think what we should be expecting is something more like a "vague sequel" along the lines of how Superman Returns was intended: it honored and referenced the Donner/Reeve Superman films and was, in a sense, a part of them, but was at the same time very much its own thing.

there are loads of good reasons the 'New Interceptor' could be in this movie (if it actually is, could be just a publicity stunt)
When the mechanic in MM2 says, 'last of the v8's '-how would he know? Plus he says that in plural, as if there have been more of them.
And what about all the straight 6 and v-12 interceptors
or diesle inteceptors , and all the conversions that could have happened in the mean time. Still, I guess ytou are pretty right in your theory Uncle entity, this is most likely a pure reboot.

I would worry if it was announced Tina Turner is going to make her triumphant return to movie making in the new Mad Max movie! I also worry that it seems like George Miller keeps talking about how this Mad Max movie is going to be "way over the top compared to any other previous movie" with a ton of money involved. It sounds like it would be the final installment of Star Wars with so much CGI and crap going on that you feel like you've gone to see a Mad Max version of Armegeddon (when they flew the Shuttle to an asteroid to blow it up - I never saw it but heard it stunk). But at this point, I'll take anything they throw at us - It's about time for another installment! Personally I'd like a movie set between MM1 and MM2 so it still has some grounding in believable reality (i.e. cars and costumes still trace back to something more than bearskins with car parts taped all over them).
