The National Film Registry answered me about the trilogy!

Post by Uncle Entity »

"Thankyou for your inquiry.
You will be happy to know that we do have the master Mad Max 35mm films preserved in the National Collection, we have also copies that are accessible to view here at the National Film and Sound Archive in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne Australia. The masters have been copied to both Film and High Definition Video for preservation purposes and hopefully in the future we will also be able to preserve it in digital formats. We fulfil the worlds best practice in Moving image and Recorded Sound preservation practices with all the works in our collection so you can be sure that Mad Max is well looked after at the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia."

!!!! 8-)

Why not on digital format yet?

Mel Gibson directed Apocalypto five years ago and that was filmed with digital cameras. It is strange that the MM trilogy hasn't been copied onto a digital format. The technology has been around for years.

Well i'm sure they have millions of hours of film and video to archive, so they'll get to it eventually.

Man, that is great news, I had a look on the NSFA website and they seem to have some great stuff from the first two films, heck even a promotional trailer for MM1 from 1982, makes me wish someone would mine them out for some special edition DVD's and Blu-Ray's.
