Mad to the Max at this years War and Peace show
This year at the annual War and Peace show, myself and some good mates decided to make and wear a load of Mad max costumes and use some of our military vehicles for a good laugh after the show in the evening and in the beer tent till the wee hours. For those who don’t know about Beltring, its the biggest and best Military vehicle show in the world currently. We have been regulars for over 10 years now and a great spirit amongst re-enactors and vehicle owners exists.
We picked Mad Max because its an Iconic film, we loved it and some of the vehicles look like the dune buggies used in the film. In fact, they are often mistaken by people as being from the film.
It took just over 2.5 months to make the costumes. I will post some of the shots here.
We had a fantastic reception by 100's of people with cameras everywhere. The costumes were instantly recognised and the show organiser loved it. We ended up running on two nights as some mates could not be there for the first night, and we had so much fun, we wanted to do it all over again. A couple of people even joined us on the second run, having put together costume that sort of fitted the theme.
Bottom - First group shot - we decided on the bad boys only from the film - hopefully the charactors are recognisable?
Middle - " buggies, an Ex SAS Pinkie for the humongus - (Only vehicle we had with an open cab and roll bar for Toady) and 2 dirt bikes. We had a PA system pipeing out quotes from the Humongus as we drove around.
Top : Prisoner tied to the Buggy and Wez and Golden Youth on dirt bike

A few more shots of us having great fun after the show.
Top - Prisoner screaming tied to the LSV and BAd Cop Doughy on guard. Full marks to doughy, he is 73 and never slacks. (Bob - father to Sam one of the girls on the LSV). Toady and the Ferrel Kid in the back ground trying to catch a boomerang we were throwing. Toady managed one catch?
Middle:- Greeting from the Humongus - Full marks to Daren for wearing that lot, even in the beer tent. His Son played Toady.
Bottom :- LSV with Crew - 2 mohawkers and a bad cop. all three armed with cross bows. All the cross bows worked, shooting plastic darts. We had great fun with these both shooting at each other and in the beer tent.

A few more pic - I have 100's plus a load of video footage. Some shots are appearing on Youtube already, not surprising because of the number of camera's being used as we played?
Top - Our Beer Tent Table Alter - Wez image (We were the bad boys from the film and a skull with Mohawk. Made when camping at the show. Cans of Dinki as a kind of alternative to Crisps to go with Beer - you cant be too fussy in the waste land? Note loaded cross bow - came in handy when a stroppy bar worker would not top up our under filled pints at £3.50 a go, so we shot her in the bum and made our escape!
Middle - Me Nick and Ian - befor mounting up and heading out on the bikes and buggies.
Bottom - Wez and the humongus - actually watching to see where that bloody boomerang was going to land?

Re: Mad to the Max at this years War and Peace show
Thanks for the comments chaps. Here are a few more of us lot mucking around in Mad to the Max style. Essentialy, each of the two evenings we would drive around the site, stopping occasionaly to play around. This involved taking a prisioner and tying to the front of a vehicle, shooting the cross bows at each other as we drove along (Great fun), going to another group of mates for a laugh, photo,s, beers. We also stopped at the main beer tent and had loads of photo's taken, played with the boomerang, cross bows again, taunted our prisioner etc etc. After droping the vehicles off back at camp, we hit the beer tent till the wee hours and partied till day light.
Top: reloading cross bows. I made them so they could be shot from the one hand leaving the bikes throttle control arm free to drive still. The surprise on people 's faces when it actualy shot a bolt. The bolts onely went about 50 feet and would not hurt when they hit you. We left about 15 stuck to the roof of the beer tent one night?
Middle:- Tommy, as Wezer chained to the Humongus wagen - Well Ex SAS Pinkie? We did have bodies on the poles but decided not to use them - this time? In the back is a photo jounalist who does Back Street Hero's (MC mag) work. John took 150+ pic's - still waiting to see them. He is going to submit to the magazine - thought were were all mad, but loved it?
Bottom:- here I have just hit the humongus with the boomerang - well, when it came back towards us, we all ducked and he didn't? We all thought it was funny, so did he when he saw it on video?
Thanks again for the comments. Cant tell how much people loved the theme and Mad max at the show. We have done other costume themes before but Mad Max blew us away with the response we got. There is still a lot of good feelings towards this classic and fantastic film. It left us wanting to do more, with the costumes and vehicles.
Cheers

Re: Mad to the Max at this years War and Peace show
Well another year has passed already. Here are some pic’s from this years show. Just like last year we had a lot of fun in a Mad max style. All the old costumes came out, plus a few new ones.
Even got to meet the “Alien” – as you can see I let him have a cross bow bolt in the “kisser”! My money is on Wez every time. Now there’s a thought for a film – Alien V Wez???
Hope you enjoy,
Ferret kid
