Mad Max VHS

Hi guys.

Over the last few months I have been lucky to collect the original (and in some cases re-release) videos of some of my favourite movies and to cut a long story short, I only need Mad Max 1 and 2 to finish it off.

If anyone on this forum knows where I can find the first re-release version of MM1 with the big roadshow R on the side (there's a picture of it on the site) and the three strip Warner Home Video of MM2 (again, a picture of it is on the site), that would be appreciated.

(Is it the same as you purchased, or are you after a different "re-release version")?

Pretty sure my one's the first Aussie video release of Mad Max.
I bought it "A FEW YEARS FROM NOW..." (past tense that is):

I remember that from the video shop many years ago.
There was a MM2 on ebay that was original release not long ago,(Village Roadshow) but was a BETA copy. Why a beta machine is sold these days over $300 I will never know, they werent popular back then so why now, They were good as door stops though.
Someone will list a vhs one day and hopefully I will snap it up..

With the VHS, note that the original VHS releases would be coming up on 30 years old now - I would not be surprised at all that various copies around are in disrepair. That's well beyond the use by date for a VHS tape. If it just broke away from the spool, probably the adhesive had just dried out - might have just been a simple repair. I've had this happen on a few older tapes that I've been converting across. If the tape snapped in the middle, that's another story.

Does anyone know who bought the Beta copy on ebay? I've always been interested to get a copy of the Roadshow Beta tape, just to see if it was the same as the VHS (which I suspect that it is). I have an NTSC Beta tape here somewhere - but nothing to play it on! I had to buy a PAL Beta machine a few years back to convert some other tapes, I think that cost me in the region of $200. The problem with Beta is that so many people just threw these machines away, they just aren't as readily around now as VHS. I had some Beta tapes here that I needed to convert (because it was stuff that I just haven't been able to acquire on any other format), and everyone I found who had ever had Beta had just junked the machines, leaving me no choice but to buy one.

Sorry Peter I didnt even watch the Beta copy as I knew I didnt want it.
All I have apart from my MM2 dvd is a VHS sent from overseas that was taped from TV which is the censored version, is vhs quality but has all the scenes not on DVD where the gore was edited. I was going to try and combine both copies with gore and deleted scenes on one but is going to require some good editing.
