This has been bothering me... At the end of MMBTD, when Jedediah reaches the cliff and then turns the plane around, he sees the oncoming baddies and shuts off the engine. The ensuing converstation between Max and Jedediah in which they discuss not having enough room takes about 1/2 a minute. If that idiot Jedediah had just gunned it to begin with he would have cleared those vehicles by 2/3 of a mile (assuming 80mph for the cars). Or instead of aiming the plane directly at the oncoming cars, why didn't he just aim the plane at a different angle, say 75 degrees either way? Because of is idiocy, Max is forced to continue wandering the wastland.

I think the issue was not whether they had enough distance to take off, but whether they were too heavy.
Max stayed behind to reduce the plane's take off weight. If the plane is too heavy, the distance won't matter.
It still won't get off the ground.

Weight shouldn't be a factor because once max got off screwloose got on and that is different. I think that it was just a good way to show that max is a good guy at the end of the movie. What would MM4 be if he made it to Sydney and had about 10 little rascals to watch after.
