Did the homeowner go after the roofer? Not hardly...they bashed the contractor's reputation until he paid for all six houses to have new roofs. When you hire someone like that...ultimately you have to "cowboy up" and take your lumps.
To me cars are a bit different...
I know nothing of Gordon nor will I feign knowledge of either side of the argument...I have heard through the board he is a super nice guy and one heckuva car builder.
From a customer service point of view...the guy getting the check for completing the car is responsible for producing the level of car he and the customer agreed upon. Surely there is a signed contract somewhere which includes a line about "defects in workmanship"? Although...automobile restorations do not carry a 5 year 50,000 mile warranty.
From a common sense point of view...if you choose to have a car built by Gordon or anyone else for that matter and you choose to opt for the "Not so premium" package...you cannot expect the car to be a show winner. Besides that...they are old cars...they are going to break and need replacement parts. Should Gordon go above and beyond in a restoration he is only being paid 50% of his normal fee? Absolutely not. Give me a safe vehicle with all the options I selected to pick up girls in and am golden!
