Why does Barry say the BoB "sucks nitro"?

In the garage, you all know the scene. Why does Barry, in describing the BoB to Max when it's fired up, say it "sucks nitro"? Isn't it strictly an air-induction supercharger? As I've said, I'm no gearhead, so be gentle fellow Maxians. Educate me.

I know our atmosphere is mostly nitrogen, but I don't think Barry was being that subtle.

I think the last time we someone asked about this.... the best we could do was nitro-methane....

Well he says it because ... IT"S A MOVIE !!!!!

It's not reality.

Movies have their own 'internal logic' where we suspend our disbelief and just go along for the ride. How else can you watch Star Wars ... strictly speaking there is no such thing as warp drive ... der!

He says "Sucks Nitro" because it's in the script. No other reason. If it said "runs on soggy porrige" then so be it ... it runs on soggy porrige.

I once asked Peter Wier about the ambiguous ending of Picnic at Hanging Rock ... what happened to the girls ..."I don't know" ... he said "it wasn't in the script".

I'm with him on this one.

Yeah, I'm afraid it all boils down to it being a movie. Like the Pursuit Special stolen by the Night Rider- as Sarse says to Roop & Charlie, " it's a pursuit special, on metho. Very toey." But somehow their regular interceptor blowing copious amounts of smoke managed to keep up with it, and Big Bopper was always right on their tail no matter how many off-road excursions those boys had.

One could argue that the Night Rider was toying with them, but then how do you explain the way Max was all over him? Who cares? It's great enertainment & one should never let facts get in the way of a good story.

I think he meant just what he said. I think the Interceptor had a fully working nitrous system. But Max never used it for a few reasons:

1. Nitro is expensive (even more so in the Mad Max world) and the bottles were never filled.

2. If the bottles were filled (and the nitro used off-camera), they ran out quickly and Max never had the chance to re-fill them.

3. After Mad Max, nitro would be extremely rare and Max could never find any.

Just my $0.02

OK folks, Here's my tuppence worth. Barry the retard (in fact an Idiot savant) was referring to Nitro-Methane (sp?) While doing a little research online before actually writing a Mad Max story I found out that dragsters use Nitro Methene as a fuel additive to increase performance, the ratios have to be pretty exact or you end up wearing exhaust valves for front teeth. Anyways I think that's what Barry's referring to not a Nitros Oxide system.
