Anyone ever notice that Benno from "Mad Max" and "Blaster" from "Beyond Thunderdome" greatly resemble each other? That's because, in my opinion, they are the same person. Notice how, when Max is about to finnish off Blaster, Blaster's helmet falls off and he looks up at Max. It looks as if Blaster recognizes him, because he smiles a little. After this, Max refuses to do in Blaster. This is because, I believe, that they both recognize each other.


By the way, The Gyro Captain, to me, is the same person that you see when those teenagers show Max a photo of the Captain of the 747 they were on. Of course, this is also the same person who overflies Max at low level in the beginning of "Beyond Thunderdome." When Max meets up with the pilot of the small plane which overflew him early in the film, Max looks at him and says "Y ou!". Could this be that Max recognizes him as being the pilot of the small plane, or is it that this man is in fact the Gyro Captain? Personally, I believe that the Gryo Captain and the pilot of the small plane are the same person.

I've always gotten the sense that Benno was considerably older than Max.. perhaps 30 to Max's 20.





Since Max was around 40 himself in Thunderdome.. This would make Benno fifty by the time Thunderdome rolled around.


Since Blaster is obviously a fairly Young man, he clearly cannot be Benno..





HOWEVER.. I think it's obvious that memories of Benno are the reason Max was sympathetic to Blaster once he found out he was retarded. So it is a Benno Reference.





Also of note, The actor that played Benno also played "Broken Prisoner" in Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior








As for Gyro/Jed.. My only argument in favor of this right now is the fact that Max clearly reconizes him when they come face to face in the dugout house.


There's no way he could have seen his face well enough during the highjacking and since he couldn't have seen the plane while chasing Jed Jr.....

As for Benno being Blaster,well I'm no medical expert but even I know that Down Syndrome starts only in the womb,usually at the 'egg' stage and not in later life!!! and Benno ain't suffering from Down Syndrome that's for sure!
