MM1 special effects

I think MM1 has two unique special effects, "metallic sound effect" when Nighrider spits out in the window at the beginning chase and when Toecutter tells that old "agent guy" about Nightrider, Remember him... It gives strange atmospehere on those scenes.
Also that "eye pulling" effect is unique, before Nighrider crashes and Toecutter hits truck. How they did it?
I Havent seen effects like that in other movies, who`s idea was use them at MM1?

I understand this was done by using a created mask/shell and air bulbs with an air pump. This single scene was the last to be shot for MM1. It was actually filming after Miller started editing the movie by hand in his kitchen. Miller felt the climax was better served by the dramatic flash of the paniced Toecutter.

Get hold of that REGION 1 DVD that came out early last year, it's got the lucky bastard who still has TOECUTTERS helmet complete with eyeballs, interviewed on it...
