Mad Max 4

Post by Pump Rod »

Now their thinking of making a mad max 4 and they were thinking of it being set 200 years into the future with some crazy plot. Well what i'd like to see is a mad max movie that took place before the original. Maybe around the start of max's career and/or around the time when the world went AWOL. I'd like to see this because it wasn't so happy with the direction the movies took in the third movie (i.e. none of the great car scenes with the classic aussie cars). So by making a movie that predates the original mad max you could recreate the magic that was mad max I and II.

It would be great to hear what you all think.

Hi.. I think that you will find that you are right on the money..and you will find that we will all agree.. Over the last 4-5 years of reading this site it seems that the most popular time zones for the next film would be between Max one and Max two, followed by a pre max one film, I don't think anyone has ever been super interested in anything post Max three, Most likely because this site is supported by a heap of car fans, so it is strange that the original target audience seems to have been forgotten about half way through the second film, and ignored in total by the third movie.

But I agree each side of Max one is what we all want to see. The "Empire magazine" article in Australia seems to indicate that Kennedy (not Miller) was the reason for the hard core and high horsepower muscle cars of the first film. So we all lost a lot when Kennedy was killed in the air-crash, because the Warrior Max died with him.

Mad Max three seems to support this theory.

Kennedy thought we were all action fans, he was wrong, we are all muscle car and high performance car fans. The action was great, but an action film with out the cars just did not cut it for us.

I now personally feel that Max is now gone.. and if enterprising enough and with the right script, the adventure could continue with a story of the time before and after Max one but perhaps with out the character Max (Mel Gibson) After all Mel is 46 year's old, they missed the chance to use Mel about the time they made the 3 act science fiction film called Beyond Thunderdome (I never refer to Beyond Thunderdome as part of the MAX saga).

Anyhow that would leave the next hero as the man known only on the side of the yellow Interceptor as "The Dark One" Max's missing partner who it is assumed rode shot gun, not the Goose who rode the bike until he busted that leg. The "Dark One" was never introduced in the film. Not hard to introduce "the Dark one" into a film, He is listed as Max's partner, so he might have also have been a gun driver and to good for a passenger seat. So he got his own vehicle. (Gosh I could do anything with this easy ..Ha ha ha)

Hard line fans might correct me by saying that the Cop that they reported the missing hand too was in fact "the Dark one" yep the book referred to him as "the dark one" I don't think the film did.

I still vote for Matt Day in the role of the Dark one:

My push toward Matt has come from watching the last moments of the TV

film "My Brother Jack" in was in these final scenes that it struck how

well Matt could fill the role played by Mel.

So if Matt Day can't get to play Max, "The Dark one" will do.. Make the muscle cars the stars, and all will be well.

Kennedy is gone, and he took Max with him.. Miller does not have a clue as evidenced with Beyond Thunderdome, so where does that leave us?

Cheers

Myself, I'd rather see a movie set Between Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome.

Like it or not, Thunderdome IS a part of the series and a logical progression of events.

I for one would be thoroughly disgusted if this new film contradicts ANTHING seen in a film set previous or if it forces a film set later in the timeline to contradict IT..

The Highlander Series (TV&Film) for example.

Highlander in no way shape or form left an opening for either the sequels or the TV series.

The Gathering. 1985. MacLeod kills Kurgan. Becomes Mortal. DONE.

Then comes Highlander II and destroys the integrity of the concept.

When I see a series of movies, I want a progression of Character.

I want the characters to grow & learn from their experiences.

In Mad Max we see a happy, fun loving guy turned berserk by the senseless murders of his Wife, Son & best friend.

In Mad Max 2 we see Max burnt out & wishing ot avoid being part of the Human race.

He learns in this film that "No Man is an Island. He cannot help but to be involved in the affairs of men"

In Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, he finally comes to terms with his own humanity and his feelings about the death of his family.

He has grown. His wounds have finally healed.

Excluding Beyond Thunderdome cheapens and demeans the entire series.

It also shows disrespect for the creators and the man to whom the movie was dedicated to: Byron Kennedy.

Actually, I think that scene was originally intended to play out slightly differently. In the original version, Max does say "...call The Dark One," but I think at that point The Dark One was still in the script as Max's partner. When they dropped the character, they didn't or couldn't "fix" the scene that had already been filmed (perhaps due to lack of time or budget?). In the American dub, they *did* change the line to "...call Ziggy." Those who saw it with the original dialog inferred that Max was referring to Ziggy as "The Dark One" but I don't think that was ever the filmmakers' intent.

FWIW, I definitely agree that a movie exploring the mysterious "Dark One", who only ever appears as a name on Max's car, could be very, very cool.

Anybody up for a fan-made indie flick? Image

About a new movie and the Dark One, how about a re-make??? Now, hold on, don't light your torches and warm up the tar (you know winters coming and those chickens are going to need their feathers). Please read on before you drum me out of your ranks, I truly am a real fan.

I know this concept doesn't really go with the original dialogue version of MM, but......

Just for fun I been going through the transcript of MM available on the FAQ site, "Just for fun now, don't get mad or think I'm evil". It seems like it was transcribed from the US version, so I'm fixing as much of that as possible. While doing this (and because I'm doing it just for fun), I decided "Because it's just for fun, why not look at in the vein of doing a remake". Why not add back some stuff that was maybe left or written out. ("I'm dreaming anyway so why not make it big"). So what I'm doing is adding more chase scenes and putting back things like Max and Goose's drag race. So now to my point of this reply.

In my version of the original I've added the Dark One back in at the beginning. He is Max's partner, a rookie. He meet's Max's wife, and Sprog (even questioning Max about letting Sprog play with his pistol). They begin to form a relationship (like brothers). He gets the tag/nickname from Goose because he's always nervous, thinking about the worst that could happen. He gives Max and Goose some doom-say before, during and after their drag race; prompting Goose to say the next day or so "My he is the Dark One isn't he" and the tag/nickname sticks. In this (my re-make) version the Dark One isn't with max the day of the Night Rider chase due to the fact he was assigned to work down in the city, during the arraignment of a gang member, a cop killer, "the Night Rider". The Night Rider escapes in the pursuit special that the Dark One was driving that day. And it's not till the crash of the Night Rider that Max finds out about his young partners murder/death. (Maybe Jesse finds out during the news broadcast that night.) This could be what starts to drive Max "mad".

I'm playing with the camera angles (defiantly not changing anything that was in the original) and new scenes like in one chase (maybe weakly explaining the missing lower portion of Max's front spoiler in MM2), Max runs down a biker; scene as follows:

As the Interceptor bares down on the rider, he (rider) looks back camera on his excited and exaggerated eyes. Camera swings and follows his point of view, you hear the engine/blower of the Interceptor accelerate. Camera view follows closer to the interceptor not stopping you hear the impact as the biker is run down and the view gets gobbled up into the Scott hat. View continues (cgi) through the blower "SHHHhhWhisp" through the cylinder(s) "spark" flash "BANG", out the valves "Whoshhhhh" and out the zoomies with a tough exhaust note. At ground level you see the interceptor pass (zoomies and rear tire) as the exhaust note fades, you hear some "crunch, smash, tinkle, tinkle, thump, thump" of the biker rolling out from under/behind the car. View follows out on to the black top still at ground level just above the remains of the biker, the interceptor speeds off...... (reference Pearl harbor bombing and Fast-n-furious similar camera/cgi scenes)

Anyway its just for fun and my take on things. Allot of remakes have been made lately with some pretty good success. You could do the same with MM, by updating the cars and actors you could start the whole excitement again. It could make making MM4 a little simpler. Don't get me wrong I'm not some dump Mel and change everything weirdo (He is truly Max and my favorite actor). MM is in my opinion the best movie/story ever and I just want to keep it alive. Anyway no worries eh, its just for fun and its not like anybody is going to take my thoughts seriously and do a remake eh!

None of the present younger actors that I know of pop into my head. Most of them are to stuck on themselves or to busy trying to match or make the latest trend. I would hope that they would use a relatively new, unknown or obscure type from Australia or ? The search may take a while but it worked when they used Mel and I'm sure there has to be some really good young guys out there waiting for a break or not even looking. I think we (movie fans) deserve somebody other than Crow, Cruise and Keano in movies. Hey what about the actor that plays the archer elf character in Lord of the rings? I'm not sure who I would cast him as, but I've seen some interviews and such (I think on the DVD) and he's a pretty unique individual. At any rate I think it would be great to use somebody away from the normal few (plus it would help keep cost down). Maybe Mel and/or some of the original cast could help (or just do it all) cast, produce and direct etc, etc.
