Was the MM2 prologue "shot" on 35mm?

The prologue is a combination of archive footage/news reel shot in 4:3, not on 35mm. It's mixed with leftover footage from Mad Max cropped down to 4:3. The archive footage was re-used in a TV series called The Dismissal also directed by George Miller, check out the first episode.
The entire sequence was inspired by newsreels playing at cinemas.
I can't believe it. 24 years of internet fandom or so, and we never investigated on the real nature of the Mad Max 2 prologue footage.

All the "footage" come from Cinesound Movietone. I spent hours in their archives to find as much as I could from the MM2 footage![]()
