Badlands 2005 TV Movie

Apologies for mentioning a subject that may have been discussed years ago. I just learned this information.

Was the 1988 TV movie "Badlands 2005" an inspiration for Mad Max Fury Road? Immortan Joe himself, Hugh Keays-Byrne, was one of the cast in this series pilot about a future USA where water is in short supply.

Games Workshop released its 3D car combat board game "Dark Future" in 1988, a game that also featured a USA where water was in limited supply. I do not believe "Dark Future" has any connection to "Badlands 2005," but its fun for two similar post-apocalyptic settings to be released in the same year.

They used to have that split into parts on youtube.
It might still be on there but one of the parts got taken down.

I enjoyed it.
Keayes has a small cameo but he's funny.

If you haven't seen it they've got one in a place that shares files and has a RU in the name.

Badlands 2005 is interesting because it was filmed in Australia with some of the people who worked on Mad Max and Mad Max 2.

I've been told, I believe it was Adrian (MM Museum owner) who said that there were some elements of the show that look like an inspiration to Fury Road. Namely the opening chase sequence with a car hooking to the back of the truck.
But other than that I can't really say that Fury Road was inspired more than that. The plot of Badlands was so over the top .... haha, the robot driving a train and shooting all at the same time...

And the most hilarious bit to me was that Hugh Keys-Byrne's voice was AGAIN overdubbed. He just couldn't get a break that man, they turned him into a total hilbilly.

Badlands 2005 was uploaded to YouTube earlier this year. The first few minutes has a highway battle that has elements of the board game Car Wars and the board game Dark Future.

Badlands 2005 was inspired by RW and Thunderdome, as simple as that.
