Ok, I'm new to the forums and so far I am enjoying it. So, a couple of posts that I've seen have inspired me to make a replica Interceptor, and I might've been able to do this if Ford Falcons weren't Australia exclusive. A couple of days ago I went to a rally and I saw someone beating out a piece of sheet metal into a body panel for their kit car as it had crashed on one of the bends. This sparked an idea, and that idea is properly crazy. I thought that maybe I would be able to build up a frame around an engine gearbox and other associated things and then beat and shape pieces of sheet metal into panels with lips on the inside to bolt to the frame. It may be difficult, but it is a project I'm willing to undertake. The only thing that I may need is measurements of Falcon panels? If anyone is willing and able to post the measurements on this thread I shall personally engrave your username on the inside of the engine bay. Thanks!

This is going to be near impossible for someone without proper knowledge and tools. Atleast if you want it to look somewhat decent. Saw something on Discovery a while back with a guy doing bodywork in some car show. He spend months making customs panels for a rare vintage car. One panel alone took him weeks to get it completely formed.

I'm an avid reader on car forums and amateur kitcar people usually go with fibreglass as it's easier to work with. But still you'd need someone who would be willing to measure up the whole car and make a blueprint.

Maybe make something MM inspired from an existing car? Many people have gone down this road, 'sometimes' with good end results.

Much easier to make a MM style vehicle from something else ... just look through your local craigslist or ebay or whatever and find something interesting. If it's RWD and has a V8 then all the better.

Projects like this are far easier if you have a reasonably solid base car to work with, mechanical know-how, a large workshop/garage, and plenty of spare cash.

In America wouldn't that be a Torino or a 71 "camaro" style mustang?
I'm pretty sure the 74 Aussie Falcon is bigger then the classic 65 style mustang.
It seems to me it would be somewhere around the end of Fords American muscle cars when they started getting chunkier.

That sure would be neat though if somebody came out with a BOB "kit car".
Just a fiberglass body kit like when they used to make those faux ferraries on VW frames back in the 70's-early 80's.

Somebody already did it that. Looks pretty good if you ask me.



Although a torino and falcon share some design cues they're still very much different cars.

Which ever direction you go, I wish you all the best, and can't wait to see how your project goes. You may want to consider though, there are quite a few XA,XB,XC Falcons here in the USA right now for sale at prices that are maybe high as a classic muscle car goes, but "Reasonable" in terms of a Falcon Coupe plus shipping across the pond. You can find a lot of them in the classified section at www.madmaxcars.com as well as all the parts you would need to build a spot on replica. If you just want to build a cool wasteland vehicle or a "Tribute" car based on a USA model that is certainly a less expensive option. Still if you really want an Interceptor "Replica" there is really no substitute. Kind of like taking a coronet and painting it orange and calling it General Lee.

I wouldn't build it from scratch but use something else as a base. Any 2 door muscle car would do as a starting point, and modify it as much as you like.
probably a mustang or torino would be closest, but we've seen Mavericks, camaros and even cudas.
