YES! Just announced. I'm so thrilled. Lucas is a real genius...
George Lucas, the "brilliant" director of such terrific examples of film-making like "The Phantom Menace" and "Attack of the Clones" and the creator of compelling and profound characters like "Jar Jar Binks", "Sebulba", "The Midi-Chlorians" and "Count Dokku", will deliver his skills to the classic, original Mad Max Trilogy in order to make it fit into the Fury Road canon/universe.
George Lucas: "I'm a huge fan of the original three movies and I want them to fit into the Fury Road canon. Fans love continuity. I know that. Trust me. It's so dense!!!!!!!!!"
The first three movies will be digitally reworked by LUCAS STUDIO in July.
This is a temporarily short list of changes to be made:
1- Digitally remove the white streaks from Max's hair - shot by shot - in either Mad Max 2 and Thunderdome.
2- Digitally remove the fire explosion when the Last Interceptor crashes in MM2, in order to suggest the car is intact and ready to be "salvaged"/used in Fury Road.
3- Digitally colour Max's dilated pupil in Thunderdome in order to make the eye looks normal.
4- Re-create a digital version of the Toecutter after the final crash in "Mad Max", still alive but looking deformed as Immortan Joe and suggesting they are the same character.
5- Add PTSD shots in either Mad Max 2 and Thunderdome and voiceovers depicting Max's auditory hallucinations.
6- Add new dialogues in Mad Max 2.
Max: "The Interceptor is still fine. I will retrieve her later".
The Feral Man: "I'm one of the History Men... my life fades..."
7- Digitally remove any visual/dialogue reference to sea and the "coastal paradise" in the scene in which Pappagallo and the Old Man approach Max in Mad Max 2.
8- Digitally add the People Eaters at the very end of Thunderdome, embedded into the shot where Max walks away alone in the Wasteland, to make viewers understand Fury Road will follow after that.
9- Digitally add the figure of Glory the Child in some key scenes of Mad Max 2.
This is it. For now.
Lucas will announce new changes soon and he also sure people: "Any previous version of the Mad Max trilogy will be totally destroyed, removed forever from the face of Earth. The original 35mm negatives will be totally obliterated once we're finished."
The three movies will be transferred on digital at 8K and also restored hair by hair, shot by shot. The entire operation will cost Lucas 45 million of dollars per movie.
