1983 TV Spot

Post by OzRedMonkey »

I've uploaded a segment from an Australian TV special from 1983 about Australian movies. Byron Kennedy, George Miller, Mel Gibson and others talk about Mad Max and Mad Max 2/The Road Warrior. Not a long segment but kind of interesting.

Off topic but something that I always find funny in old footage, smoking :). Multiple people are smoking at the Cannes panel when Mel is speaking.

It was a TV special made in Australia by Channel 9. It was broadcast in 1983. Not sure of the exact date.

It was about the renaissance in the Australian film industry that occurred during the 70s and 80s. There were several segments, similar in length to the one about the Mad Max movies, which featured movies such as Sunday Too Far Away, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Wake in Fright, the Barry McKenzie movies, My Brilliant Career, Breaker Morant, A Town like Alice, Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith, Gallipoli and The Man from Snowy River.

As with the Mad Max segment, for each movie there were interviews with directors, actors, producers and others in the industry. I haven't uploaded the entire special to YouTube but I may in the future.
