Mad Max: Fury Road rated 'R' in the US

Box Office Mojo is also reporting an R rating from the MPAA. If true, it's really a travesty, because Miller will be forced to go back and edit it even tamer. The MPAA is a joke.

One other thing. If this holds, WB may have no choice but to release it as an R because I don't think you can edit out what they're rating it R for, if you know what I mean. Not like they're complaining about a particular scene or something.

Holy shit.

I'm shocked to be honest. This is a huge $150-200 million summer tent pole for WB and they've got balls to rate it R, the equivalent of 18 in the UK. I can only surmise that the reactions from the trailers and test screenings has given them all the push they need to let it go through like this but more importantly allow George Miller to realize his vision without cuts.

I really hope you're right DGSimo. That would be the best case scenario. My take, however, is that WB was expecting a PG-13 rating, which they will now appeal for. If they lose the appeal, I think they will release the movie as is because of the time element. Trying to bring it down to PG-13 will take much effort and time which they don't have. I even question if it's possible without neutering the entire film.

For that same reason, we probably won't see an uncut, hard R version either, not unless they were editing such a version of the movie in parallel with the "PG-13" version that blackmocco and others saw..

DGSimo, I always feel better after reading your posts, you're the voice of reason. I hope it is final, what I love about THE ROAD WARRIOR is the intense action. I don't want them to hold back.

Ah, I see. Well, if that's the case, then it begs the question as to what blackmocco saw, because he's adamant that what he saw was PG-13.

Yeah but some also said the film would be pushing PG-13 and we've seen this comment for 3 screenings now. In the end it's what a group of different people think in the MPAA that sometimes, mostly, never lines up with what you think might be rated. lol

For what it's worth I read the other day on reddit one persons thoughts while saw it at the third screening and felt the violence was on par with Mad Max 2..

Wow, I didn't believe it when Rotten Tomatoes put the R rating for Fury Road on their website a few weeks ago. I don't want to say I believe the R rating is final because I'm always wrong and I don't want to jinx Mad Max 4!

And again, no way it's an R. There's nothing in it that lends itself to that rating. The test screenings were specifically ages 13 and up.
