MM2-Opening Chase, GB Beserker Passenger..

Post by scfc68 »

Any info on the guy in the passenger seat, who fires the arrows that hit Wez??

You can't see much but is it a welding mask he has on? Noticed in one shot he's got black gloves on and not in another?

The mask / helmet he wears is discussed before a while ago. It is a very old fire fighting helmet.
Just have a look at this thread: http://www.madmaxmovies.com/forum/viewt ... met#p96737
"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

Hey, that's great! Thanks :D

I read through the thread, seems like firefighter was a real one of a kind; unlike the other marauders who had 3 or 4 different subcultures.

Wonder if anyone fancies speculating a backstory??

There is a term for that arrow gun isn't there?? Is it an actual working weapon?

Btw re Vernon Wells, did he ever actually ride the motorbike or was it always a double?

from the screenplay
The passenger - a GAYBOY BERSERKER - wields a brutal,
gas-powered 'gun': the heads of six metal arrows
protrude from a big barrel. This weapon is the
"Porta-pak".

That weapon looks to be essentially the same as the one fired by the Bad Cop on the roof of the Mack truck during the chase.
Except it fired one arrow instead of 6 bolts.

I thought all the gayboy berserkers wore that helmet and studded face garb??

Based on the description from the script is it likely, as is common when writing and developing a film, that ideas and things change over time. Your right in that all the 'Gayboy Berserkers' are supposed to wearing the same thing. Why the passenger has a different mask I am not sure. The 'Gayboy Beserkers,' or also known as 'Bad Cops' are said to be former MFP officers like Max. This is evident given their leather uniforms and the cars they drive. How they came to named the 'Gayboy Beserkers' is still a mystery. However, one can speculate that the image and nature of the gang evolved into what they are in the final film, but the gang name somehow stuck.

Below is a link to an image of the two 'Gayboy Beserkers' and Wez's stunt double posing with the Landau. There is a better quality image of the same picture available, but I am unable to post it at this time. In it the passenger is visibly wearing a 'Gayboy Beserker' uniform, but not the racing helmet, sun-glasses, or leather mask.

It might be that Miller wanted to portray a more fearsome variety of Mauraders in the opening scene. In the opening moments we learn that these guys have cars, bikes, and buggies. Plus they're working in packs, weaponized, and, in the case of the guy under discussion, armoured.

In terms of screenwriting, it's hard to manage gangs of characters without grouping them, which they did well in Road Warrior. Describing this character in any detail wouldn't have any relevance to the story.

I may also be that anyone using the Porta-pak would, by default, wear more protective clothing as they'd be a target. We have to keep in mind, while Max is defenceless in this scene, they could be running into someone as well armed as they are.
