At the end of a roundtable discussion between film score composers, each was asked what score of theirs they're most proud of. All but one mentioned a past score. Marco, however, said he was most proud of his upcoming score for Mad Max. You can hear him at the 1:08:00 mark of the podcast at the link.

It's also mentioned in the Sept 6th entry on his website.

I'm not familiar enough with his music to have an opinion.

Interesting. I like and own quite a few of his scores including Hellboy, Scream, Blade 2, 3:10 to Yuma and Terminator 3 but some of his work can be hit and miss.

His work on Terminator 3 was fantastic. He is a good composer so this is good news.DGSimo wrote:Interesting. I like and own quite a few of his scores including Hellboy, Scream, Blade 2, 3:10 to Yuma and Terminator 3 but some of his work can be hit and miss.

Not sure if it means anything, but on Dec 3 someone edited the MMFR Wikipedia page to add Christopher Young as the composer (there was nobody listed previously). I just re-checked the MMFR IMDb page and I notice Marco Beltrami's name is now no longer listed. Still, a faux MMFR poster remains on the left sidebar of his home page.

So I don't know what's going on. Beltrami is currently attached to a bunch of movies coming out over the next 2 years, so its possible he had to drop out of MMFR.
Christopher Young's IMDb page. Of note, he recently scored Priest.

Re: Fury Road composer is Marco Beltrami (maybe)
Whilst I wasnt a fan of the film, I liked Marcos score for Max Payne, I hope he replicates like a mix of stuff from Mad Max and Road Warrior tho, they have classic themes, I dont know the name of the track but I especially like the music in the intro to Road Warrior when the feral kid narrates
Haunted by the demons of his past

[Moved discussion to the appropriate thread]DGSimo wrote:You found the composer a few months back mate. It looks like Sydney based Elliot Wheeler is handling the soundtrack as he tweeted he completed a bunch of the score at the beginning of April and his site says he's working on the soundtrack:biolumen wrote:Two things conspired to keep it away from SDCC 2013. As I said previously, I think it won't come out until after SDCC 2014, and they will use that event to promote it instead. Also, if they released anything movie related at SDCC 2013, it would detract from the spotlight they wanted kept on the game's presence at the convention. They don't want to dilute their brand marketing efforts.
DGSimo, I don't think the movie has been properly scored yet. If anything, they might have commissioned a temp score by someone other than the person who will eventually score the whole movie. Usually that's done later in the post production process. Last we heard, Mario Beltrami said he was going to score it, but I've heard nothing for several months now.

Yeah, I know. And you could very well be right. But look at his resume.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1395268/
He hasn't scored a single film that was theatrically released, never mind a +$100 million blockbuster with major franchise potential riding on it. All but two of his film compositions are for short films. The other 2 are direct to DVD movies. Meanwhile, Miller has multi-decade veterans leading virtually every department. Cinematography, costuming, hair & makeup, etc. Would he entrust the score to what is essentially a tentpole newbie? Perhaps, but I doubt it.
From his bio, it says...
Which is the exact same thing he says about MMFR. Yet, his actual contribution to the GG wasn't as composer. Craig Armstrong is credited instead. For the last year he has been working on the soundtrack for Baz Lurhmann’s The Great Gatsby
I think his contribution to MMFR is something other than the main score. I just hope he isn't arranging songs to be rapped by Iota.Elliott was the Arranger and Additional Music Producer on Baz Luhrmann's film The Great Gatsby.
He worked through 2012 and 2013 on arrangements and compositions for the score and soundtrack, including tracks by Jay Z, the Bryan Ferry Orchestra, Will.I.Am, Florence + the Machine, and Gotye.
*Edited for clarity*
Edit #2: Just a thought, but maybe Elliot is working on "music" that will be played over the speaker truck.
Re: Fury Road composer is Marco Beltrami (maybe)
In this interview, Aussie composer Elliott Wheeler talks about scoring Fury Road. As I suspected, it appears he's created a temp score only for internal screenings (see underlined). I still think someone else is doing the main score, but it still could be Wheeler as that part of the interview is a bit vague.
http://www.goseetalk.com/interview-film ... t-wheeler/Let’s switching gears to what you’re currently working on. George Miller’s Mad Max Fury Road. Mad Max in an inherently Aussie film series. Did you grow up with it? Seems like this film has for years had trouble getting off the ground but once things were finally in motion what were your initial thoughts getting on board?
I’ve loved Mad Max since being a kid, and it’s amazing the response you get when people start talking about it. It really resonates. Every film has some sort of issue in its development, so I was just thrilled to be asked. George Miller and everyone in the team with has been wonderful to work with. It’s just fantastic working with someone who understands the story telling so well and who understands each element of the process so thoroughly. It’s really just a thrill to be a small part of such an iconic story.
How and when did you become involved with Fury Road and in general do you read scripts, just the treatments or only start writing when the film’s being edited and mixed?
I got involved with Fury Road to help with early internal screenings, working with George and Margaret Sixel (editor) to help put together the musical palette for the film. In general it just depends on the project. It’s great if you can get in early as you can help shape what the final mood of the work might be, and that way you don’t have material coming back at you that you feel doesn’t fit the tone of the movie. But sometimes you just get given something close to the final cut. It just depends on the project. I love getting to read the scripts as well, I think it helps to understand where the director is coming from.
What were some of the things George was looking for from you early on? And aside from your music can you tell us what we’re in store for as far as the story and the world Miller is creating?
Sadly, no. Can’t really talk about any of that…they know where I live. *laughs* But it’s a great film, and if you’re a Mad Max fan you won’t be disappointed.

Polish inteviev with Beltrami translate by google:
On the Internet abuzz that compose the music for the new "Mad Max", but no one seems to know how it really is. It is said about you, Christopher Elliott Youngu and Wheelerze.
do not know who composes. But I know that's not me (laughs). Now I am working with Legendary Pictures, the "Seventh Son". I also have the wallpaper "The Homesman" with Tommy Lee Jones.

Thanks, and welcome to the forum. So it isn't Beltrami. Maybe its Wheeler after all. Or perhaps Brian Tyler (Fast & Furious, The Expendables, Iron Man 3) who is now listed as composer on the MMFR wikipedia site (it use to say Christopher Young).

Re: Fury Road composer thread
Looks like we found our composer unless Miller has something else, big going on. Somehow originally missed the other tweets but caught the recent one from Tom Holkenborg AKA JunkieXL about his meeting with George Miller in Sydney...
I...really, really dig this news. Junkie XL if you're not familiar with is a remixer from the Netherlands mostly working with synthesizers and technology. Most recently he's been working with Hans Zimmer and contributed to the scores for The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel before going on to do fully score a recent film called Paranoia starring Gary Oldman.
Looking back on his tweets it looks like he flew over and met with George back in August and is currently in Sydney working on the score.Great meetings with George Miller!! Work to do!!!! #filmscoring
