Fury Road gigahorse 1:64

this one used 1:64 cadillacs, but is so big when completed it's the size of a 1:43 - lol

I'm not sure what the turret/gun things are on the back in the set photos we've seen, so I'm holding off on those and I have holes drilled in the base to add those once I see a better pic.

also I couldn't find dually's in rubber for the rears within a reasonable price range, so I went with these which are real rubber and I thought looked pretty good.

anyway, I'm pretty happy with this one. I started out with two models but one broke during the fitting process. getting the top caddy body to fit into the bottom body isn't easy. it's a lot of cutting and you have to bend the bottom sides out and they are very brittle as potmetal is, have to be very careful bending it. I had to build the body extension, suspension, the engine and the front end blades from scratch. so I learned a lot doing that. a fun build, I'll probably make more. I can thank Danny for giving me the inspiration.

I suppose this qualifies as a worlds first eh? Other than the dualies on the back but it looks pretty good. What did you use as your base car?

the base car(s) are two 59 Cadillacs in 1:64 from JADA Badge series, they come with whitewall rubber tires which are great for wheel swaps so despite being expensive they give you great parts all around. they are actually a hair larger than that scale, maybe actually they are 1:60 or so.

and yeah I could have chased some expensive 1:43 tractors to get the right size wheels for the dually's - and if I make more, I'll spend that $$ on the keeper. this time I was trying to complete the project while not breaking the bank any more than I did.

I've notice many of the Jada vehicles are not truly in the scale the claim to be. I will have to look for this Caddy and add it to my project list. With my surplus of Falcons I may give the silver version a try.

that is cool!!!!!!!!!!! great job, those jada's are not in scale like you said, they seem to run big, like 1:50, not 1/64

anyway, good job, was thinking up doing the same, using two Hot wheels 59 caddies

thanks Jake, coming from someone of your skill level, that is much appreciated.

I've found that while the Jada cars are slightly larger than 1:64, they are more sturdy than the hotwheels caddys, with internal cross braces molded in underneath and thick sides. with the extreme cutting needed on this model, especially for the top car, that sturdiness comes in handy.

I was thinking of getting one of my spare Interceptor models and making the silver interceptor we've seen in the photos, but not enough good photos of it yet to see what's going on in that boot (trunk) and if that really is a machine gun or not sticking out of it.
