that is a very interesting article. It is also amazing that with all the rumours, Sam Worthington was only asked about them recently?
To all the Mel Gibson enthusiasts this is good news. Good point, to our understanding no aussies have been approached or even considered so maybe Mel might be back or Max is a no show. I cannot wait for Miller to release the plot somewhere!

Hardy talked a little about being cast in Fury Road to MTV.
MTV: When you look back, can you pinpoint a best or most surreal moment?

Hardy: I didn't expect to get "Mad Max." I really didn't. I didn't ever expect to get the lead in a Hollywood movie, for Chris Nolan off the bat to offer me ["Inception"] without an audition and then to go sit with [director] George Miller [on "Mad Max"] and work with him and not really audition in the orthodox way of auditioning — this year's been crazy. I've been working as an actor for a long time now, and I've been waiting for an independent film to come along because it was very hard to get cast as a character actor, as a lead — being credible but bankable. It's very hard to break in when there are plenty of people who can be cast, who can green-light, who can put bums in the seats. So this whole year has been staggering.

I wonder what was unorthodox about the audition?

He's definitely not the lead of Inception, so he must be referring to Fury Road.

So, what does this mean? It means he's definitely not playing the villain. Otherwise, it doesn't tell us much. Whether he's playing Max or not depends on whether Max is the movies' central character. If he is, then Hardy is Max. If Max has a smaller part to play as old rumors suggest, then Hardy is playing some other character.

The picture of the Interceptor I found on the South African website has fuel tanks in the back. This suggests that it will be the same car Max is seen driving in Mad Max 2. I'm guessing that Fury Road will contain flashback scenes from the post-Mad Max, pre-Road Warrior era. So, either Miller is putting Hardy in flashback scenes driving the old Interceptor, or Mel will return as Max, driving the iconic car in flashback scenes, with Hardy playing some other part, probably the one Heath Ledger was rumored to have back in 2003. The problem with Mel as a young Max, of course, is Mel's current age. Could he be made to look that young again? Convincingly?

Oh yeah, and the reason why the Interceptor's tanks are covered with a black sheet at the press conference was probably to prevent the kind of speculations I'm making here.

I am now sure that this whole thing is set up as a generation down the Max linage.
In line with a "son of" "next generation" story.
Preserving the continuity of the first trilogy and Mel's Max as the iconic Aussie road warrior.

Personally I was hoping for a reboot on from 2 - banishing Thunderdome from the overall myth.

Peter Barton wrote:Finally, with the tax offset... I would think that 30 weeks filming in Broken Hill is more than enough to ensure Australian content sufficient enough to qualify. The locations will be clearly visible, and that's what is going to generate the tourism dollars. The original trilogy still generates tourism for exactly the same reasons - I should know, I've met many of you over the years who have come out to see them! Hmm, perhaps there's a tax offset to be had for me for promoting the locations for tourism as well... :)
Appears to be a moot point now. To the great surprise of many, Alex Proyas' movie "Knowing" was recently approved to receive the coveted 'Producer Offset' by Screen Australia, this coming after Proyas' loud complaints following Screen Australia's rejection of the same movie earlier last year for not being "Australian enough". What this means for Fury Road is that it will almost certainly qualify for the generous offset even if Miller casts the leads with foreigners as he appears to have done.
