"I was a cop. A driver." = MAD MAX 1.
In "MAD MAX 1" there was still civilization (night-clubs, restaurants, safe homes, Sun City still operative and the list goes on and on and on - what about Labatouche and the government questioning the Bronzes' work?).
There was a major energy crisis and pollution everywhere... that's it.
"The Road Warrior" is just set after the apocalypse. 7 years later in my timeline.
Not to be blunt but seeing that always posted, it means absolutely nothing. Your timeline is fan fiction, nothing more. Taipan has posted numerous official documents and works before where it details the gap between MM and MM2 and specifically states that
The Road Warrior takes place 3 years after the first movie.
Also "The Art of Fury Road" even has a quote from Brendan McCarthy where he says that if you were to fit Fury Road in to the timeline then it'd take place quite a bit after Thunderdome.

I know, but 3 years are way too few as "gap" inbetween the first 2 movies.
Plus, I seemed to remember that Miller changed his mind about the "gap", stating it was more than that.
My timeline is based on the movie, extrapolation. Don't take it too personal, buddy.

Depends on how you define the 'apocalypse'. To me the first 2 movies took place during a major energy crisis and we're there to witness the disintegration of society. The actual event you might call 'the apocalypse' were the nukes that dropped shortly after the Road Warrior. I'm not entirely sure how Fury Road and Water Wars fit into this though.
I absolutely agree with you that Miller purposefully wants those movies to be mythological and vague, but ironically he's got extensive backstories for everything, including weapons and cars. It's a brilliant way of creating a fully formed universe within a film and keep people invested, those who try to figure it all out.
I think I'm looking at it more or less like this:
Pre-Apocalyptic: Everything's more or less normal. There's war/drought/famine and other horrible things, but nothing that actually threatens the entire world.
Apocalyptic: The span of time directly leading up to and including the collapse of society/civilization. In the case of Mad Max I think you could look at that span of time as (approximately) starting with "the two mighty warrior tribes" going to war. I think that could be considered the beginning of the end, and the opening narration of MM2/The Road Warrior seems to set that conflict as occurring before (or possibly during?) the first movie.
Post-Apocalyptic: Simply put, events that occur after the fall of society/civilization. Thunderdome and Fury Road certainly fit that description. I think there's an argument that RW could fall into that category as well. Just how far HAS society fallen by that point? How much of what we're seeing is just the craziness of The Wasteland? There's a chance the comics could shed some light on that, if the Max related issues actually go into his background at all.
As psuedo-exhausting and debate-inciting as it seems to be these days, trying to "figure it all out" is still pretty fun. I simply can't believe that Max has been given new life like this.

Even if great wars had already occured (for example if we take the order of statements in the MM2 opening to be directly chronological) elsewhere during the time of Mad Max 1 the situation for me does not fit with how we usually use the term "apocalypse". I like to consider that during such a time different places would be doing worse or better and that means not everyone is experiencing an "apocalyptic" lifestyle. Makes me think of On The Beach, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear Miller say he was influenced in some way by that classic movie/novel.

Yeah, we should have been quicker - I honestly didn't think it would be sold out everywhere within days of release. I can't find one anywhere in Melbourne, I've back-ordered through one store who say they are getting more next week, but who knows.
If anyone knows anywhere in Australia that definitely has some left, let me know. I also tried the Google Play store as a few suggested, but can't seem to find it on there either. Anyone have a direct link to it, or any other electronic version?

Hopefully Taipan won't get angry at me but for our Australian brothers and those who can't access or get the comic...here's issue #1:

You'll need a Comic Book reader for your PC/Mac. You might able to change the .cbr extension to a .rar and extract the images too.

I read the comic- it was OK, but not super. It was a bit cliched' to me and there wasn't enough content. Hopefully issue 2-4 will resolve this.
I really would like no.2 Furiosa come out sooner as I am quite curious about her background. Sadly, it's coming out several weeks from now.
A major thing I don't know for sure- will there be prequels or sequels?
