What could be Max's new vehicle?

Post by Foxtrot X-Ray »

Well, it doesn't exactly7 tell me what I was looking for, but http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/5971/emp.html is a good essay on the physics of an EMP Feild.

Waaaayyyyyyyy back in the eighties, in my high school science classes, they explained the effects in a manner that strongyly suggested that most fine conducting wire (Probably everything under 12 guage) would be unable to take the currant it was suddenly carrying and would quicky burn out.

That size of copper conducting wire is used extensively in a car's electrical and ignitiion systems.

So my assumption would be that most of the wiring & components would be damaged.

At one point in time, when Ronald Reagan was in office, and concerns over the possibilities of nuclear war were high, I actually had several sealed steel containers filled with ignition systems parts and wire.

My hope was IF there was an exchange, (and IF I didn't get vaporized in itImage) I could perform the nessasary repairs on my vehicle and "get out of Dodge" as the saying goes.

My dad decided we didn't need that stuff cluttering up the garage and threw it away.

Darnit, I need that Starter now. Mines cooked.Image

I saw a rolled F250 Powerstroke. It had Max's name on it. I think Max will find teh "Paradise" that Curmudgen spoke of. This future will have a rebuilding of the MFP and depict battles to regain normalcy in society.

Today I talked with aperson who got second hand info from someone else who knows Brendan McCarthy(co- writer/production designer on Fury Road). They said that the vehicles are going to be large & heavy like the APC from Aliens without the technical refinement.
And Cundalini wants his hand back!

Detritus,

According to my theories - based on MM1 - Max ventured into the "PROHIBITED AREAS" at the end of MM1. They're slightly different from the Wastelands. I suppose a big environmental change, connected to pollution - occured long time before MM1. Dr. Dealgood, in his speech to Thunderdome's crowd, mentioned the infamous "Hard rains". Now, I'm a scientist (kind of) and can sure you the hard rains are not the product of nuclear explosions, but the natural progression of focused pollution.

So the hard rains was beginning to destroy agricultural centres, and the Australian farmlands were painfully abandoned, giving "life" to the PROHIBITED AREAS. Keep in mind Max and Jessie travelled throughout a lot of deserted villages. People was moving into the costal cities, now big metropolis-like urban groups. SUN CITY, where Max worked as Bronze, was just set in a geographical "middle-sector" where eco-biological life was still on.

Just read M.F.P- THE CHRONICLES if you want to know about it:

Okay..

I'm currently taking a class to get my Technician Class Ham Radio liscence.

In class we talked about RFI Interfearance & some other stuff and one of the assistant teacher guys, an electronics engineer, mentioned building a DEMP gun.

(DIRECTIONAL EMP)

So after class, I decided to ask about the EMP thing.

He confirmed that all solid state electronics, Point type distributors, Coils, Starter Motors and a lot of other electrical parts in an older car would be cooked in a Nanosecond if they were in range of the field..

The range of the field would vary by the yeild of the particular Warhead & the overlap of multiple strikes could amplify the range.

I've just done some drawing on a Map od Australia with my best guess as to the radius of each strike on major cities such as Sidney, Brisbane, Melbourne, etc.. and basrring the overlap effect, it does leave a large section of SW Queensland, NW NSW, Most of South, West & North terratories Un-EMPed.

(This assumes that Alice Springs does not take a strike. If I recall correctly, this is not a large town, but is a nice tourist spot? It was a tourism map)

He suggested that a person COULD stash replacement parts in a COPPER box, with a heavy guage cable soldered on, leading to a copper rod sunk at least four foot into the ground.

("Earth Ground" in technical terms)

He thought the parts inside would PROBABLY survive.

He didn't think that a vehicle could be sheilded easily as an Earth Ground would be essential.

(alythough I suppose one could put the entier CAR in a copper box, but you'd need a lot more grounding..)

Foxtrot-

I haven't had a chance to do much checking on the EMP thing. I read the link you provided. The most it really said was that the wiring would conduct the pulse to the solid state parts. Not really conclusive either way.

It seems implausible to me (not that that means alotImage !) that the wiring and simple mechanical type circuits would be vulnerable. I could see 'fusible links' might be a problem. I would be interested to know how the police/military shield their equipment (or maybe it is a false sense of security for them........and us).

Uncle-

I started reading the "Chronicles", but had to stop (that 'work type place' would frown on it). I know people have mentioned reading the books (something I don't remember being available, except for Thunderdome) but I have never read them. How much of the 'Chronicles' is based on stuff directly mentioned in them? "Hard rain", to me, might not be a strict technical term. It could concievably be a 'catch-all' reference for any kind of rainfall that you wouldn't want to be caught in.

My use of "wasteland' was taken from the prologue of MM2. The narrative said 'wasteland', but the visual was of the 'prohibited' sign. Not exactly a narrow connection.

Have you ever seen movies called 'Dead End Drive In' or 'Resistance'? 'Dead End', while not authorised by Miller, was done as story to fit in a pre-MM1 setting. This was stated by the director or writer. Might be the same person. I haven't read anything on 'Resistance', nor have I seen the entire movie, but it, too, fits in the MM universe. You might check them out, 'Dead End' first, a little silly, but definite MM touches, and 'Resistance' second.

Oops, lunch time is over....

Okay...you guys are much more into Mad Max that I've thought...

As for Max's ride...I just pray it won't be rice (it won't, Mel ain't stupid) and I hope it won't be desert truck..

But man...imagine Max in Honda CRX....with 56 stickers, double wings, chrome wheels and clear tails...I wouldnt glance at the movie.
See you around, maybe. Good bye, good luck.

Well, all in all, It would be pretty exciting to see Max riding a cycle, finally... it would even sound like a deja-vu, there was a deleted scene in the first movie where...

After all, he's always the Road Warrior. Interceptors, kawasaki, Junk Truck, Cow Cars... it doesn't sound different to him. He's the Wheels Doomgiver, if you know what I mean.

Detritus,

Never heard about it. I know the movie - they aired it a long time ago here. I'm referring to DEAD END, of course. Thanks for the infos.

The Chronicles are based on the movie - nothing but the movie itself, some clues revealed in MM2 and MM3 and some infos from the MM1 novelization. I think they are pretty close to the truth and - ABOVE ALL - Miller's mastermind vision, if you ask me.
