I did a bit of research into the term "Ace" from an aviation point of view and wikipedia threw up this:
Source - http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_ace
"While aces are generally thought of exclusively as fighter pilots, some have accorded this status to gunners on bombers or reconnaissance aircraft, observers/gunners in two-seater fighters such as the early Bristol F.2b, and airborne weapons officers in aircraft like the F-4 Phantom. Because pilots often teamed with different air crew members, an observer or gunner might have been an ace while his pilot was not, or vice versa. Observer aces constitute a sizable minority in many lists. Charles George Gass, who tallied 39 victories, was the highest scoring observer ace in World War I."
Now I am wondering if our "Ace" is a War Rig Observer? Scanning the horizon for potentially hostile vehicles, ambushes etc "Ace" alerted Furiosa when he saw the Citadel Distress signals to Gas Town and the Bullet Farm he also alerted people to the Buzzards presence when the War Rig went off road. It is up to him to repel any attacks on the War Rig with his crew and let the driver concentrate on driving.
So Ace might be a nickname, whilst Nux shouts his real name "Grew of Frew" as he warns him to get out if the way just before trying to shoot Furiosa...just a thought I had.
