American Presidential Candidates

Presumably not his kind of business either, but probably the only one left to 'try' his luck on. :?

"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

Only as fake as the mainstream media.

It's rather funny, only the alternative media that is pro-trump gets labeld fake whilst others can continue to misinform people.

And i never said that i blatantly believe everything alternative media says. But if you do your own independant research you'll see that alot of it holds truth. You just have to sift through the bullshit to get it.

When the debate degrades down to NEVER TRUMP or NEVER HILLARY the battle is lost for both sides.

I'm a very left leaning but I'm not going to even try and defend the activity of many liberals during and after the election. Both candidates represented some of the worst traits of government. Both the candidate's parties contain some of the worst individuals that can wield power. Inequality and authoritarianism was going to rise regardless of who won because America's an outright a plutocracy. At least the Republicans gave the ticket to the most popular candidate.

While the mainstream media is a huge problem, it's the online bubbles that are the real issue. The rhetoric is completely polarised; everything on the other side is wrong, all those people are the same, all those people's arguments are invalid.

Liberalism has gone too far for many. There's a lot of older white traditional people from a blue collar background who are in pain. Their situation is falling apart and their future looks bleak. For years they have felt like the only group without representation. They display their anxiety and all they get back in return is accusations of privilege. Trump spoke to them, not in the condescending subtext of the other candidates, he engaged. Just like the Remain campaign did in the UK and right-wing parties are doing across the globe.

And yeah, some of Trumps traits disgust me. The extremism it fuels scares me. But being expected to support someone simply because she is a woman also insults me.

The division has come from both sides and the hypocrisy is rife. If Trump had lost the protests and demands for recounts would all be the same. His supporters would have perhaps stuck behind him more. It didn't take long for people to tear into Hillary right after voting for her.

Democracies like this work best when you have great politicians who are just off centre. Individuals representing the people on both sides. That's where effective compromises are reached, because a compromise is the best you're ever going to get with hundreds of millions of different needs. What we are seeing now is a swing back and forth that gets more extreme each time, massively rewarding some while horribly hurting others.

What we have to do right now is heal our divisions and take on board each other's viewpoints. We also have to understand that we have a mutual enemy and that is inequality. It's the welfare for the rich and the free market for the poor. It's the criminalisation of certain social classes. It's lobbying. It's unregulated financial systems. It's corporate owned press. It's party over policy. It's church and state.

Social media bubbles are a very large problem, but I think that the advent of 'post truth' is a bigger issue - when news sites and prominent people can willfully mislead people without repercussions it makes the electorate woefully mis-informed.

This election was about calling the liberal bluff and you lost. Deal with it. The Republicans could have nominated a ham sandwich and they still would have won.

But the thing is, although post-truth is going in the Oxford Dictionary this year, it's nothing new. For centuries we've supposedly known better than to listen to gossip, appreciated people have an agenda, and understood that printing words doesn't make them true, yet here we are. Post-truth politics existed the second politics existed.
