I think everyone should take into account the original intented FR film version to sort out the timeline "problem".

I believe there were 3 permutations of the screenplay over the years.

1998- Mel Gibson as Max, playing Max over all the film.

2001?- Mel as Max, appearing in flashbacks. His DNA recreated "son", played by Heath Ledger, is the new Max for the whole film. ie someone with memories of his "father". Hence here, the timeline works.

2008- Current film version. No Mel, new actor playing Max, the timeline is thus all over the place, but who cares?

Don't wait for the comics to sort out a timeline that works. Just the way the film evolved, the timeline will never work, but it doesn't matter since this film is in parts reboot, and Max is like the Man with no name (who fight the same vilain he killed a movie before and no one cares as long as the film is good).

I don't think MM:The Wasteland will be a prequel. I think it will explore more the new world MIller as created with this new film, and I think the DNA origin of the new Max MIGHT maybe, come into play. Or not if Miller doesn't care about that storyline anymore.

OK first that is not the same book I was talking about, "the art of" is a making of book about the production design while "inspired artist" is just a bunch of art inspired by mad max from all the top comic artists, so that is why i couldnt find it

12405/365= 33.98 years, but is day 1 the day after the power went out? or the day of the nuclear war? or some other event? The comic says Joe took the Citadel on the 3rd day and I think that is what they are counting from. which would basically mean FR is a minimum of 34 years after MM1

Furiosa's 7000 days / 365 = 19.17 years

this would make it all pretty hard as max would have to be in his late 50's in FR, so i don't know how they are going to try to explain that in the comic but it is a story by George Miller so if it does somehow manage to bridge the gaps I will not complain at all.

I would say the "Bad Day" was the beginning of the WORLD WAR 3............ :!:

that could be before or during mm1off screen and would help fit the whole unified theory

What a mess. I say: alternate universe. Leave the original trilogy alone... 8-)

wow you guys give up easy :? You are not even going to at least give it a chance until september to find out what they are going to offer us in the support media?

compared to things like Star Trek or Star Wars Expanded Universe or the Marvel DC super hero universes, Mad Max is hardly a mess. With just 4 films, a video game, and 4 comics it should be very easy to explain any thing that contradicts if they choose to tell us.

I really don't think this was ever in development, specifically this part - "His DNA recreated "son", played by Heath Ledger".

I do believe that Heath Ledger could of been up for Max though, I'm sure MIller has already stated this.

As for the timeline debate, the bad day and the crumbling of civilisation would of started years before MM1, the opening montage of The Road Warrior shows a lot of wars/fighting happening before the events of MM1.

They had a Forbidden Zone in MM1 for a reason, things could of gone crazy out there with years of no law and order out there.
