Neat premise in a setting I really like, but there's something about that game that just didnt work. It's almost like it's a shooting gallery where you're on a mission or in a building and every room is static and you shoot enemies that move towards you or jump around; then when that's over you walk on to do it all over again. There wasnt much use for the cars except racing and going to new missions, which selections and upgrades also were kind of lame.
I hope it's way more fallout than RAGE.
I Feel Rage gets a bad rap. and yes I've played it to completion. but you do make a good point on many levels the vehicles weren't as big a part of the game as most of us would like (I am actually extracting the good cars from the game to make useful in gta or games in the like, but that's another story) at any rate.
this is a game by a studio who made one of the best competitors to GTA series to come out in a long time. so popular that people made a mulitplayer mod that is offical add on to the game. if anyone is going to give us a very big open and not at all ragetastic game it's Avelanche studio. so while I might understand some of your fear I just don't see the studio wasting this oppertunity to take a movie series based around machines and make the machines secondary. they seem to understand the weight of the task before them (even if they had a hickup on the voice actor in the start.)
But that was in the midst of a glut of games that imitated GTA3 pretty well, including mercenaries and what was it simpsons road rage? So I'm not sure how much of an achievement a decent imitation of GTA should really be considered.
I didn't play #2, so cant vouch for that one (I heard it was pretty good) but Just cause was 7 years ago. What are the chances that any of the programmers responsible for pulling that off are still around at that company. It took less time then that for mercenaries to get mangled into mercenaries 2.
I have to agree that it looks more like rage then anything.
Which I really wanted to like, but you can just look at any gameplay video of rage on youtube and see how wrong it came out.
How just standard issue, derivative and paint by numbers to a flaw it looks.
(Imitating something on a surface level is different than understanding what made the original great.)
Thats how the look and feel of these mad max game trailers is seeming to me.
Ham-handed, derivative and wrong.
But that doesn't matter as long as the movie comes out well.
(One of these days.)
The reason this won't work as "proper" Mad Max game is that it assumes abundance mentality stance: endless supply of cars, weapons, engines, whatever...
The "proper" Max game would come from scarcity mentality territory: sponging gasoline from car wrecks and testing out shotgun shells.
I want to feel the excitement of that one fucking shotgun blast into bad cop's windshield.
Fallout series is actually pretty good at this. Especially first two 2D games. No vehicles though.
Minecraft is awesome survival game as well.

Well said. MM would make an excellent lonely scavenger game with fleeting but intense combat. I'd also like a game I can chose to be less aggressive and more sneaky in, such as setting traps.

you do realize that there are many approaches to each mission including stealth right? as for abundance of cars and no scarcity , this I also don't get. you have one car (aside from the interceptor you are trying to get back) and the mauraders have many cars yes but fuck did you honestly stop to count the amount of cars in mad max 2? you have to scavenge for parts and fuel is a scarity in the game so you have to manage resources. and you have to scavenge these maurader cars in the game while having to worry about their buddies coming up over the hill to attack you, not unlike when max found the mack in MM2 and was under fear that wez might attack or might even bring his friends over to over take max and kill him, how is this so different then the films in those respects? or am I the only one reading the press releases anymore?
I won't lie and say that this is fully in the spirit of the movies but that's kinda of the point of this being an "Alternate" take. thus why the interceptor is mix of fury road/mm 2. if you walk into this title expecting it to be just like the movies then you will dissapointed. the stuido has said countless times that this is an alternate take, and that's a good thing. because how many movie liscended games, especially the follow the films, have been worth playing or even fun? I rest my case. we will get our hands on the game and then by all means please trash this game AFTER playing it. but if all this forum of going to do is bitch and moan about a game they have no intention of playing for themselves then there is no point in further discussion cause I seem to be the only life long MM fan on here willing to give this title a shot and I find that to be so sad.
and besides if you people really cared half as much about this as you say then you would support the modeling work I've been doing for almost ten years now trying to nail the vehicles down and maybe...just maybe try to craft a small indie title that closely resembles the movies but so far only aussiemuscle gives a shit these days. and then we wonder why there aren't more mad max titles or merchandise.

I saw Mad Max on HBO as a kid and The Road Warrior at the drive in shortly after in 1982. Beyond Thunderdome at the cinema in 1985. I'm a life long fan and I'm more tahn willing to give it a chance. If it's awesome I'll say so if it sucks I'll say so. Either way I won't complain until I have the controller in my hand and know for sure.

Nobody here owes you anything or must abide by your doctrine.
The negative response to the game was born out of the developers stating they were disregarding the existing franchise and that was punctuated by the reveal that weren't even using an Australian voice artist for Max. It really doesn't get that much more of a bigger fuck you to existing fan-base.
They were on the back foot from the start and it's now up to them to convince us the game is worth becoming stakeholders in. It is us lifelong fans, members and contributors to forums like this which has kept the very brand alive they hope to capitalise upon. Without the fan-base they would have nothing, without us they would have nothing.
I dont know why the whole voice actor thing doesnt bother me. It's not like an actor can put on an accent that isn't to their native country. I bet they really flew in an Irish-Romani bare knuckle boxing gypsy to do the voice over for Bane in Dark Knight Rises.
...
Not being clear on which setting the game is set is a problem for me, much like when the new movie is set; if even in the continuity. That same ambiguity was the same reason why I had no interest in the "new" X-men movies. Did first class REALLY need to be apart of Singer's crap? No. Did they REALLY need to bring Singer in for Days of Future Past? No. The flip flop around headache in the end didnt make those movies worth my time; I'd really hate for that to happen to Mad Max. To that end, I dont care WHICH way they go just so long as they are CLEAR which way they are going; I'd be hard pressed to find something I didnt like in any, either, or all of the Max series... Comparatively with X-Men first class, in the beginning there was Shit or Shinola and ended up mixing the two ingredients losing my interest; that will not be the case for Max. Except for the fact that we're looking at possibly 2-3 different continuities for one series.
Am I making any sense?
Like I said before, if the game is more like RAGE I wont like it. Fallout, as a "guide" of how to do a great MM game is the best choice and one I would thoroughly enjoy.
I'll give you that without the fan-base they'd be noting. to a point. after all how many mad max inspired games (such as fallout) have gone on to big successes with people who aren't that big of a mad max fan? gaming of this type owes everything to mad max and I am happy it's inspired so much. I've wanted a good mad max game (and no I'm sorry mad max on the nes doesn't fit the bill imo.)
but then this begs two questions. 1. where were most of you when NEC was putting out mad max merchandise in early 2000's? they went bankrupt bring us mad max and we never got our interceptor to go with these figures and such. when companies look at that real world example of when they try to bring mad max back. it becomes a (sadly) toxic property that no one wants to touch with a ten foot pole. 2. I re state my challenge. name me more then one or two great movie based games that aren't just shameless cash in's? because let's be honest. we've become the equivelent of the worst of the fandom. think of lord of the rings the movies, enders game the movie and so on. when film makers make an almost scene for scene adaptation fans are pissed that it's not like it was in their heads. yet when film makers take liberties that best adapt the books to the medium of film. we bitch that it's not faithful enough to the books. which then leads me to ask a thrid logical question. what's the point in trying to make a game of this property?
as stated we don't buy enough to make a property profitable, and anyone who tries is basically behind the 8 ball from the start. could aveleanche have done better with the property. absolutely I will conseed to that. but once more I seem to be the only other person on this forum reading the press releases and paying attention to what it says. and thus don't feel like avaleanche has a thing to prove to me in the slightest.
the mad max fan in me may not like this game. but the gamer in me might still find it fun cause the game is well made and at the end of the day...seeing as they said from the start this isn't movie based.... I may still like the game cause it's fun to play and be able to just ignore the name on the box. I play video games for fun and as long as somethings not too insulting. I have fun with video games as they are ment to be. they are entertainment.
but going back to the why bother I also renstate my comment. I've been slaving away at models that are as accraute to the movies as I can possibly get including maps to be based off the movies with as much detail as the game engines will hold. you guys largely ignore the nearly 6 plus years of modeling I've done for the community. if not for people like aussiemuscle, who has helped me with refereance material with actual aussie cars, I'd stop posting. cause when I get things done I don't think most of you will notice or care and well as far as trying to push mad max gaming forward and accurately it''ll mean my work is for nothing. which means maybe this year I ask why I do this. sure I'm a fan but if this is the kinda of reception my work will get then there's no point. because there is too much pre-hate of everything anyone tries to do with the liscense in most respects. like the mechanic in mad max 2 I've put my blood sweat in tears to making the most detailed models. even updating the works I have done in the past and figuring out if I can finally get these cars to be the proper hand drive ingame. to me it just seems like you guys don't want a game unless it's perfect to your specifications and even then I don't think any two mad max fans in or out of Australia would agree on merrits or demerits of the property.
I want mad max in gaming. proper mad max like what I grew up with. but I don't know if it even matters anymore cause seeing the amount of hate on this forum just sucks all the fun out of trying. I guess I'll go on vacation and just sort of think on all of this cause I just don't see the point of mad max gaming anymore if this is how it's to be.
