It's very odd when other franchises move so fast. It might be for the best though as Miller may be fighting execs to keep his baby within his vision.

Other franchises can get in other directors to churn out films but MM is George's baby. Another Mad Max film is about as likely as another Song of Ice and Fire book.

I spoke to Iain Smith (Fury Road Producer) at a special viewing of Black and Chrome at Pinewood studios and asked him when can we expect the sequel? his actual words on the Mad Max 5 was "if it happens" and wasn't confident on the progress, that being said he might not be the producer for the new movie!

I google news on this on daily basis but even if we get a date we probably won't see anything for years!! George is getting on now and not to be selfish, if he passes away he will probably take max with him and mean no one else can touch the franchise! he won't even give people permission to make toys, there was N2 back in the early 2000s then they went bust and no one made anything after that. so that how much control over the franchise he has as he didn't like what they did apparently which was a shame cos they were going to release an amazing Interceptor but they went bust before it was released (sorry a bit off point there).

Bizarrely enough, the official Mad Max Instagram account just made a post, after not posting anything in a year, with a image of Miller during filming of Fury Road giving direction to Abby Lee of holding his hand out showing five fingers...

As an aside, Miller will be introducing Edgar Wright's 'Baby Driver' at it's Australian Premier on July 12 in Sydney. He'll also be holding a Q&A with Wright immediately following the movie.

Just throwing this out there. If Miller is looking for another director to make one of the Mad Max prequels, he could do a lot worse than Wright, who himself is a huge fan of Miller and the MM franchise.

5 months until the start shooting with be the most likely scenario.

More like MM5 is go and thats about it , they will need a whole lot of pre production before any shooting will take place

To be honest, I don't think it means anything really, although I haven't asked anyone close to Miller if things are gearing up someone probably would've mentioned something. I'll ask around just in case.

EDIT:
As I suspected. Got info from multiple people higher up, nothing's gearing up for Mad Max 5, nobody's been contacted about anything. I only got some rumors that aren't worth mentioning. One interesting bit of info is that with the amount of work, if folks were contacted today, it would take about 5 years to get the movie into the theaters. And that the movie would be filmed in Australia this time around because WB want full control over it. They can't be sending their folks to Namibia whenever something happens and trust me some stuff did happen in Namibia that pissed WB off, financially and the way actors carried themselves let's put it that way.
