Well if this is something like what we see in 007 movies in terms of continuity, i've got no problem with it at all. Well maybe it's gonna be a bit hard letting go of trying to connect this one with the previous movies and imagining Mel as Max, which is what made Hardy being under pressure from the start.

I hope people warm up to him by the time the sequel being made.

Looks familiar to one of the shot in the trailer.

Huh. Not to add fuel or ammo for sequel/reboot discussion but we kind of missed this yesterday as DC Comics Solicitations for July were released including the Mad Max comics and they had these...
MAD MAX: FURY ROAD – MAD MAX #1

Max. The warrior Max. Haunted by his past and fated to wander the brutal Wasteland in search of his better self. To do so, Max Rockatansky enters Gastown, the only source of guzzoline for thousands of miles. Here he finds the final piece that he needs to rebuild his Interceptor – the powerful Boss 351 engine. But in order to acquire the fabled V8 in a world where car parts are worth more than a man’s life, Max must survive a gladiatorial battle in a place called…Thunderdome Plus!

From the mind of George Miller, the creator of the Mad Max trilogy, the prelude series to the upcoming film Mad Max: Fury Road continues in its penultimate issue!
So uh..ignore the game for a moment and I suppose that could give you a reasonable explanation on why Max has a Interceptor in Fury Road and still fall in with the continuity with the old trilogy. Maybe.

In a fallen world ravaged by oil and water wars, humanity exists without law or mercy. All those who wander the Wasteland are ruled by a single imperative… survival!
Among them is Max Rockatansky, a Road Warrior haunted by his turbulent past…
“As the world fell, each of us in our own way was broken.
It was hard to know who was more crazy…Me…or everyone else?!”

The four stunning tales are collected in a single volume from the mind of George Miller, the creator of the Mad Max trilogy.
In these preludes to the film, witness the rise of a war hero turned tyrannical warlord known as the Immortan Joe, along with the story of one of his “War Boys,” the indomitable Nux. Plus, follow the journey of Furiosa, Immortan Joe’s most feared Imperator, and witness the cycle of violence and tragedy as the Road Warrior Max Rockatansky fights to rebuild his Interceptor – the vehicle that ensures his freedom!

Finally, exclusively available in print for the first time, the tale of the mighty War Rig and the lives it claimed throughout its wild road battles!

Well, this does put the cat among the pigeons, as it does show some continuity with the previous movies, at least if you wish it!!!

I think Fury Road was structured to re introduce Max to modern kids and old fans alike, and also please the guys in suits.
Once the hooks are in, I think George Miller will tell the back stories as hinted in the novels and make for a more pure complete story that Mel mentioned in an earlier interview. Its really Dr Millers sandbox to play in, we are just lucky enough to watch.

I haven't seen anything in the above posts that confirms that it is a prequel or sequel , the movie / comic books and game are separate beasts

If they decided that the sequel to Fury Road is the prequel retelling Max in Thunderdome then i'm all in. Or at least make it a short prelude like that 2 fast 2 furious turbocharged prelude.

Max hands looked weird in that comic book cover.

They're not though. The comics are official canon to Fury Road as they're prequels written by Miller and co and the developers for the game including the game director have stated the game takes place before the events of Fury Road which going by the Max comic issue description that seems to fall in line and confirm that.
