News on the Fury Road : "The Wasteland" & "Furiosa"

Aside from being ironic, maybe Mel Gibson could take the wheel at directing this one. His latest war epic is gaining incredible praise.

Yes, absolutely. Beside Miller, for me Mel is the only Director who could do a 'real' Mad Max.
He's a good (visual) storyteller and his movie 'Apocalypto' is in my eyes comparable to Fury Road: an intense chase movie.
I'm really looking forward for his next 'Hacksaw Ridge'

I wouldn't like anyone but Miller do direct a MAD MAX movie, it's his baby. Like I have said I would rather have no MAD MAX movie than one directed by someone else.

I understand the sentiment, but I think George Lucas and Ridley Scott have proven that sometimes the old dog cant do the old tricks anymore.
It happens to the best, it happened to Muhammad Ali. Although they all created timeless classics in their prime that are still resonating today, its hard to argue that they haven't lost a few steps in lesser to greater degrees.

There where parts of FR that were quite tremendous and greater achievements than Ridley or Lucas have been able to muster in decades.
And there were also parts that that were comparable to the worst that BTD had to offer IMO and utterly failed me.

I'll put it this way, I would never want to see another Alien movie by Ridley Scott after prometheus.
Sometimes holding onto that baby too tight isn't doing the baby any good.

Thats fair and I respect your opinion.

I'll put it this way,
I'm not convinced that Miller will make anything that I can love as much as RW.
Inbetween BTD, his pig and Penguin movies and this one for the last 30 years.

I was happy with parts of FR.
But like BTD, the parts that I didn't like dragged the whole thing down to me.

I'm not saying that it would be better off in the hands of a shnook like joseph kahn or jj abrams,
but if the best that Miller can muster these days other then his inherant knack for cool cars and action sequences is gender swapping,
he's running out of good ideas.

Miller talked to the Sydney Morning Herald and basically repeated what we've heard before. Of note is that he doesn't mention another Mad Max sequel, but instead talks about making "something bigger" after his small film is made.

When Fury Road was released last year, Miller said it was such an epic film to shoot – 135 days of shooting, mostly in gruelling conditions in the Namibian desert – that he wanted to make a smaller film next. He joked it might be a remake of My Dinner With Andre, the acclaimed 1981 drama about two men having a conversation in a restaurant.

In what may be a blow for Mad Max fans, he is still keen on that plan. "I'm very interested in making a smaller film before I embark on something bigger," Miller says. "There are a couple of things I'm working on. But to be honest, you work on a number of things and suddenly for one of them the planets align and the film is suddenly under way."

When it comes time to shoot those new Mad Max movies, they won't be in black and white. "The studio and probably audiences would say it's a bit weird: why are we watching a black and white movie?" Miller says.

HARDY: I’m anxiously waiting to find out. There’s mythology to do with Mad Max that spans copious amounts of tales. What’s wonderful about George [Miller] is that he’s created sagas for Max and sagas for Furiosa, so it’s what he chooses to focus in on. I’m really just waiting for the call like, “All right, let’s get the leathers on and get back out there and do some more.” It’s there. I’m just waiting for it and looking forward to it.

Is Mad Max: The Wasteland happening?

HARDY: Yeah, as far as I’ve signed to do three of them. It’s a question of when. I’m not sure it’s called The Wasteland or not ‘cause you never know. These titles change all the time. But, there’s definitely another Mad Max project pending.

What are you excited about, with returning to that particular character?

HARDY: I love working with George [Miller] and the fact that his mythology is so deep. It’s a joy to work with an artist and somebody who has the ability to be a movie maker, as well. It’s the full package, isn’t it?

Hardy's comments offer no real change about anything though sadly. It's basically summed up as "I'd love to do more, I loved working with George, they're planning on doing more and yeah I'll be there because I'm contractually obligated of course". lol

Yeah these quotes don't sound to me like Hardy knows anything that we don't. This doesn't sound like there's been any concrete movement on a sequel. He's just talking it up as he loved the critical reception it got and would genuinely like to do more.
