Yes, I mentioned Mad Max Cars; didn't seem to help.

I'm thinking it may be over. Even if someone gets me a driver today, I don't know if they will make it to Cali in time.

I'm looking into flying out there. Have to see if I can pack my stuff into one carry-on bag and two checked bags, all within their size requirements.

Those commercial carriers can be a twitchy lot. We ran into the same problems when we used to go to Fort Indiantown Gap for the WW2 reenactment. We finally ended up renting a truck and the flatbed. Not that I'm suggesting something that big for just The Machine, we were moving 2 halftracks and an armored car, but the idea is the same. You don't need something really big since you're basically moving a pick-up truck. Did you try calling Penske or Ryder? They have a commercial class of rentals and they have pretty much any size mover you'd need.

On the other hand, the last option is to just load up and drive it there. You've pretty much have the bugs worked out and it may take a day or two longer. The weather could throw a few ugly surprises crossing the mountains though. You'll be a shoe-in for the 'Die-Hard Fan of the Event Award'. Dave Giovanni- the man, the legend, a man truely mad. Admit it, you've done crazier shit in the Army. You'd be a God in the Mad Max universe. If it were next year I'd meet you somewhere around Arkansas and we'd convoy it. I'm totally serious on this.

Did you already have your plane ticket? Same itinerary? If they let you check in extra stuff for an extra charge, it'll probably still beat shipping it - especially at this point.
BTW, looks like there may be some on-and-off rain this next week. Make sure to pack a little more than your Humungus outfit!

Well I managed to pack all my stuff into one carry-on and two bags that I'll have to check. I'm ready to buy my ticket (same itinerary, Karol), I just need to confirm that I can get a ride from and then back to the airport.

I gave it my all, but it just wasn't in the cards for the Machine to make it this year. To everyone who chipped in, I'll be returning your donations of course. Thanks again for your generosity. I hope to see you in Cali!

armourer, I looked into renting a flatbed for the trip. Waaaaaay too expensive. And... holy crap, armored cars and halftracks?!? You have to have me over sometime for some joyriding! By the way, I was USMC, not the Army. Call a Marine a soldier and them's fightin' words... Kidding, I have the utmost respect for anyone who served in any of our armed forces.

Sorry to hear about the machine, but really glad you'll be joining us for the event. There has to be someone who can pick you up from Burbank. I can't because I'll in a full car and then heading to pick up an RV in the opposite direction from Burbank. But there has to be someone.
Maybe you should post something on the facebook page? People have been posting about carpooling there. There are a LOT more attendees watching the facebook page than this forum.

P.S. Are you bringing your Humungus outfit?

I could bring my Humungus outfit (I don't have it packed at the moment). It just doesn't seem right to wear it without the Machine being there.

I understand what you mean, but for all the fans out there who don't even know about the machine, I think a lot of them would be thrilled to see someone as Humungus. Most people don't have the balls to wear that costume. And Wasteland Weekend would be one place where it would definitely fit right in.

Put it this way, I think you should pack it just so you have the option. Otherwise I think you may get out there and wish you had it to put on at some point.

I havn't flown since the war started. I'm kinda concerned about what you can bring on the checked baggage.
