Why not just make one? I've been sewing holsters and gun belts for almost 20 years, if you can hem your trousers, you can sew a knife sheath. You have the knife in hand and Rook has posted a pic of what the leather sheath looks like. Since most of it will be concealed in your boot, it doesn't have to be pretty. OR,....print out a copy of the pic and find a saddle shop or Tandy leather store near you. Most saddle shops will do custom work and the Tandy stores always know people who do.HUMVEE Driver wrote:I now have my Mk II in hand, and I must say it is a very solid knife. No big surprise that Max carried such a quality knife. It fits well in the hand, seems very sturdy, etc, so I'm happy with it. However, it did come with a heavy canvas/nylon sheath, and I need the leather one with the diagonal snap. Anybody know of one, or want to trade? My sheath is in perfect condition, and I actually would prefer a beat up old leather one.

Now that's just crazy talk... but not a bad idea. I just might give that a shot. Not that I can sew, but I can use rivets. Thanks.

Setting rivets isn't that difficult. I figure you'd have about $25 in material at the most. Most leather stores have scrap boxes that should allow you to find some pieces of hide of the right size. I'd go with 8-9oz leather for the sheath itself and 5-6oz for the securing strap. You can get a snap kit with about 8 or so snap parts and the setting tool.
Or how about this? I can custom make you the sheath and make it look just like Max's. The pics look like it was cut down right at the belt slits. I can reproduce it to look just like Rook's pic with the wire belt hanger or I can cut it down. I can get a ratty canteen cover at the surplus store and rob the hanger off it if you want to go with the factory, out of the box look. I'm already set up to hand stitch and I'd have to run over to the Knoxville store to get some quick rivets and the snap. I'll just charge you for materials and whatever you feel is fair for my time. I'll dye the whole thing black and it will look new, you can distress it yourself. However since I don't have a Gerber, I'll need your knife to size everything properly, so you'd have to mail it to me. I'll make a pattern so I can construct more in the future if someone else should want one. We're both in the States so shipping shouldn't be outrageous.
Your thoughts?

DON'T DO IT Humvee!!!
Just look at his name, there's a clue there. He collects all things lethal. Once your combat knife arrives it'll sink witout a trace into his already impressive armoury and that the last you'll ever see of it!
LOL!
Jes' kidding with ya.
I've made scabbards and sheaths for knives too. Current;y working on a combined Bowie knife incorporating a leatherman tool pouch and torch sling. It's pretty much done now. It's not rocket science, but it's handy to know what you're doing. If you're used to making things then you can get away with most domestic tools without having to shell out a wedge on special kit. Sounds like a good offer from The Armourer there Humvee, I'd take him up on it I were in your shoes.
Anyway just cos' I like blowing my own trumpet here's a pic of a scabbard I made for a mate for his hunting knife. The previous leather scabbard somehow found it's way down his dogs neck when he just happened to leave it lying around and his dog sniffed it out and gave it a right good chewing over.

Excellent work, Biker. And the knife is beautiful too. Is it also a custom build? It looks too nice to be a factory piece.

Custom made? Hmmm not sure, but remember this is France, so maybe it's factory made and he just bought it in a hunting shop here. I've seen plenty of shops catering for such.
Once he and his mates had shot a wild boar and used the knife to butcher it in the field anyway he spilt the carcass down it's length at the spine, seems he used a hammer on the back of the knife in the process. Knife wasn't best pleased at that abuse, so I had to file out the hammer marks and dents, which leads me to believe the metal is rather soft. It's hollow ground as well. Nice knife, sharp and well weighted. He's well pleased with the scabbard for it. I will get around one day to "engraving" a tribal style Wild boar into the leather of the sheath.
Thanks for the compliments Armourer

Re: MM2: Where did Max keep his combat knife?
I wish I read this a little sooner, armourer. I already went to Tandy and got a pattern for a leather sheath. I'm about halfway done and it's looking pretty good. I'm surprised how easy it is to make. I can't tell how Max keeps it in his boot, so I'll probably use some zip ties or something.

You obviously need to check the boards more often.HUMVEE Driver wrote:I wish I read this a little sooner, armourer. I already went to Tandy and got a pattern for a leather sheath. A SOG Daggert 2 could possibly be an ok alternative to an Mk2.
It's made for the exact same purpose. Too bad the blade isn't clear.

Gerber is now making the Mk II knife again for those who are interested.
