Came across someone's account of filming at Potts Hill who was a body double for one of the Five Wives:
I put that to the back of my mind and arrived on set with the other doubles...there is 6 of us in total - 4 wives and 2 guardians. We hit up costume, hair and make-up and then had an amazing breakie...eggs, bacon, toast, jam, fruit, museli...once the actors and actresses were ready, we ran through rehearsals all day and then they would step in and film the scene. Zoe Kravitz is so friendly! I just adore her. Lunch is just as good...we also had the pleasure of sitting by the main cast - including the stunning Charlize Theron who is just amazing.
I also had the pleasure of meeting Tom Hardy - the man who plays Bane, in The Dark Night Returns...and the new Mad Max. He chatted with us, constantly friendly and welcoming...my one big star struck moment was when I was heading for the port-a-loo but they were full, so I was waiting outside. Suddenly, the door opens and Tom Hardy is standing there, saying hello and holding the door open for me. He says goodbye as I step into the bathroom and close the door behind me. Um, he's the only staring actor on set who doesn't get driven to and from set to use his private toilet in his trailer. HE IS AWESOME.
Another 3 days to do...hoping to get a picture with these megastars by the end of this!
Today was the 2nd last day of filming. It was like any other day...arrive a couple hours earlier than the cast, get into our wigs, make-up and wardrobe...and then casually wander off to the amazing Mess Hall with even more amazing catering. Breakie is always around 6-7am with a selection of cereals, a variety of eggs cooked in different styles, hash browns, fruits, museli, breads, muffins, crumpets, instant and fresh coffee, a billion different teas, juices and milks and finally, an endless supply of bacon.
So, naturally, we (myself and the other 6 body doubles) gorge ourselves until we are about to burst and jack ourselves up on as much coffee as we can in the short amount of time we have to eat because we aren't always certain we'll get lunch at a decent time plus we are always 'on-call' and have to chill out near the set.
Today was an excellent day because all of us were FILMED for various body-parts and angles (I wasn't aware of how much the cast were used for smaller angles and shots...apparently not a lot)!
If you are a a Mad Max fan, you are probably aware of the insane motorbikes and cars that are featured throughout the films...the last 15 minutes or so of the film, is a variation of both the cast and body doubles both in the amazing Gigahorse and outside on a giant platform (of course, filmed from above and behind).
I can tell you that it really is something special to be in the presence of some amazing, professional actors and actresses. Especially when Tom Hardy is staring at you and your other body doubles intently. Really, REALLY, special. Even after the Director calls CUT! Haha.
We bid farewell to Charlize today...she filmed her last scenes and left with a beaming smile and a 6 pack of the delicious South African cider (which I do miss quite a lot, after living in S.A for a year), Savannah. Jealous.
Tomorrow is my last day!
And that's a wrap! Well, at least for me. There is still a few more weeks of filming plus post-production. It doesn't come out until 2015.
Today began bright and early with a nomnomnom breakie then straight to costume. Because we weren't being used in any filming, just as a stand-in, we didn't need our wigs which was nice because having so much hair tightly wrapped under a pixie-cut wig, ends up hurting and itching after a few days.
We did some stand in scenes before the cast arrived and filmed their scenes. The day was quick, efficient and to be honest, as tired as I was, I'm gonna miss the new friends I have made. We bonded very quickly because of the long hours of the day. I have them all on FB now and hope to see them in a years time to go watch the movie together! The stunt guys think we'll get invited to the Wrap Party and/or Premiere but I highly doubt it because we only did a total of one week and they have all been on set, both in Australia and Namibia for over a year. Oh well. Either way, I am grateful for the experience and how quickly they accepted us as part of the team.
Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture with the amazing Charlize or Tom. I was too scared to ask plus the girls kept telling me how unprofessional it was...As harmless as a quick souvenir picture can be. But, I do get what they're saying.
Oh well. I'll always have my port-a-loo memories of Tom Hardy. Haha.
Their impression of Theron:
She was lovely...kept to herself mostly but said hello each day when she saw us. Otherwise I rarely saw her. We saw Tom a lot, he was very interactive in between takes with the extras and crew. I have a lot of respect for megastars who are still humble
