Then again on one of the protest signs it says "Abbott" as in Tony Abbott, the current beloved prime minister of Australia? So the apocalypse started right about NOW, but then they drive 70's cars for no reason, there's the environmental concern thrown in the mix (none of that was in the original timeline - people rioted because there was no fuel, not because someone polluted their environment), then nukes drop before MM2, Roop and Charlie make a comeback.... it's a chronological mess. At least the original trilogy had some continuity, but this comic throws it out the window to tie it in with Fury Road.

The first comic, the Nux/Immortan Joe issue, showed a brief glimpse of Joe's gang using AM General Humvee. The Humvee started production in 1984, and is still in production for military use. So that's a surprisingly modern car to find in the MM universe.

Mad Max 1 isn't set in 1979, its set a "few years from now". it's deliberately vague so it's not dated, fashion and technology advances not withstanding, it could be any time.

Rebuild as in build from scratch again. Not repair what's broken. The old Interceptor was blown to pieces.
It's right in the frame next to it, where he salvages from a XB buried in sand. That's not his car.

And it is forcing it indeed. Unless we treat Mad Max at face value - an anti-super hero series and not realistic portrayal of postapocalyptic society.

So basically, as long as Bruce Wayne can rebuild his caves, cars, aeroplanes and whatnot - without having his cover blown off, Max Rockatansky can rebuild his car in the middle of nowhere using nothing while eating and drinking nothing. Movie magic.
So he came across a buried XB, lol too much of a coincidence.

Man i wished they did a different backstory than using this. I was interested in how would they do his new backstory, then this thing happened, sucks.

Few grainy shots of new comic I found in a comic book store, showing max with a
351 engine and his Interceptor hidden away.

That looks exactly like a Mad Max fan fiction I read around here over 10 years ago. Kind of pathetic how much they've burdened the character for no reason other than lazy writing.

I liked it. I thought it did a great job at capturing Max's voice (I could hear a mix of Mel and Tom while reading, some lines more Mel, others more Tom), and it was nice to see a bit of what became of Joe's Citadel after Fury Road. Is everyone really so upset that Max threw together a replacement "Interceptor" out of Wasteland scraps? I'll agree that it's on the silly side, but at the same time it doesn't strike me as 100% out of character or impossible. And I for one am -glad- to have confirmation that the events of the original pictures still stand. Hopefully that'll help put the more outlandish "Tom's Max is really the Feral Kid!" type theories to rest.

But this story is not taking place in our universe. We don't know much about the pursuit specials, other than the clues we can glean from seeing the one stolen by the Night Rider, and what is known about Max's car.

For all we know, maybe there were numerous Falcon coupes in use by the MFP, and they all had Concord front ends. When Max is first shown the BoB, the conversation is entirely about the car's under-hood modifications, and not about its bodywork.
