Seven Up sponsored the whole original MM2 chase. It's right there in full view during the whole truck chase. You really regards the original with rose tinted glasses.
It wasn't 7up written on the tanker. It was 7 Sisters Petroleum. A nickname for 7 oil companies that dominated the global petroleum industry at the time. The companies being:
Anglo-Persian Oil Company (now BP)
Gulf Oil
Standard Oil of California (SoCal)
Texaco (now Chevron)
Royal Dutch Shell
Standard Oil of New Jersey (Esso)
Standard Oil Company of New York (Socony) (now ExxonMobil).
They were a big part and inspiration for Mad Max series as soon as the 1973 global oil crisis happened. You can read more HERE
Pappagallo was working for them and stole their maps leading to the Compound.
I warned yiz earlier to get maximum enjoyment out of Fury Road, you're going to have to let go of the past. It's a movie for a modern generation, with all the elements you loved about the previous movies updated for the 21st century. Yes, it's bigger, it's more brash, it's over-the-top, that means there's some CGI in there, BECAUSE THAT'S HOW MODERN MOVIES ARE FUCKING MADE. If you're all going to steadfastly cling onto nostalgia, maybe you shouldn't go see this. It's not 1981 anymore so any comparisons with the previous movies are moot. Road Warrior is my favorite movie of all time and when I say that I mean there's a huge space before we even get to my second-favorite movie of all time but it would be ridiculous to expect Miller and a studio to make a movie that looks like that now. It would be an embarrassment. Of course it has to compete with modern blockbusters. It's insane to suggest otherwise. If you all want to carry on living in the past, just don't go see this and put on RW instead every day for the rest of your lives. Solves everyone's problems right there.
Once again, and with feeling: This movie's not just for die-hard Mad Max fans. The studio and Miller already know you're going to go see this and while I'm sure they hope you go and love what you see, they could give two shits if you don't. They want a new generation of die-hard fans to love this movie as much as the original three (Yes, that includes Thunderdome. Fuck all y'all. It doesn't get nearly enough love on here, as far as I'm concerned. Haha!). They don't owe us anything just because they made movies we loved growing up.

I'm wondering what color your glasses are tinted. Perhaps a little more than a tint...

Yeah ! That's what i'm talking about !
"You know, Hope is a mistake. If you can't fix what's broken, you'll go insane."
How would making "Mad Max: Fury Road" similar to "Mad Max 2" be an embarrassment? The film is a masterpiece. So what if we're in a new generation. "Mad Max 2" still has the power it had back in '81.
