yeah thats an old trick with the 4x4's especially the Full Sized Jeeps I.E The Wagoneers,Cherokees and Gladiator/J10/J20's you usually get you an"Axle over kit" for em

I remember seeing the spring pad on top mod back in the late '70's-early '80's on street cars in an attempt to get wide 50-series rubber on the car. It was usually done by those guys who had no idea what they were doing, sort of a redneck-type modification. And rarely did they give any thought to pinion angles or handling characteristics.
