NASFIC Convention/Roadwar 2007
C'mon guys! It'll be fun.
Hummer, you go to DragonCon THIS year and hit NASFIC next year in 2007. We'll make room for any weapons, armor, costumes and models you wanna show off. We can even link your page and promote it in the programming book and progress reports.
Vehicles will be parked in a reserved area and checked on occasionally.
As far as the San Antonio fiasco, we have learned a few lessons and I will be clearing any road run from the Illinois State Police down through the local Collinsville PD right down to the 82 yr old door greeter at Wal Mart. We ain't havin' any issues THIS time. But static only vehicles are also welcome.
Thanks for the responses. It gives me something to gauge...

I'll figure out a way to be there.... Not sure if I'll be able to bring the bike or not... May have to fly in......
Send me some leads on places to stay, in the low buck flea infested price range, but nice LOL.........
As far as SA and lessons learned goes.... Clearing it through everybody isn't enough, get it in writing/e-mail/blood and save all documentation. And it would be a good idea to have it with you during the event..... Even with having e-mails from the public relations officer the thing that eventually saved us though was our pictures. Yep.... once we pointed out our uniformed hired officer as well as the time stamps on the digital pictures showing that we could not have been speeding, and finally not having any evidence of "storming the tanker with machine guns" we were finally off the hook........
By the way our hired officer, was promoted!!! (Nice to know we didn't cost him any career points.... He still swears every time we talk about the way the SA PD handled the whole thing....) and it appears one of the SA officers that was such a jerk during the parking lot discussions was arrested and charged with possession (cocaine)..... I love justice...... (I wonder if he got my cell, and jump suit?) (actualy I never made it to general population but its a nice thought)

Hey guys, I'll do my best to be there. Haven't missed one yet. Heh heh.
I'm going to try for another event here in San Francisco on Oct 28th if anyone's interested. I'll try to get a bar this time, and maybe a place to have some crossbow target-practice on a few good guys.

Damn, i dunno if id trust my newly built road warrior inspired falcon/ranchero on a run to st. louis. Id ride my rat cycle anywhere, but just the idea of what thatd do to my back sends shivers down my spine.
but hell Karol, if you try to get something going on in frisco, I could prolly hit that up without a hitch.

I've proposed my ideas for Roadwar at the NASFiC next year.
What would YOU guys like to see if you could attend an event?

Hmmm,...I'll be living in Tennessee by then so driving to St. Louis is easier then driving from Florida. I may have the Duster-based Interceptor done by then. Either way, car or not, I'm in.

Progress Report:
The convention center will definitely allow cars inside for display. Probably room for only 3-4 at most inside, but a designated secure roped off area will be provided outside for any other cars that aren't 'trailer queens' (just kidding guys!).
I figure we put the high quality/ fully finished vehicles inside with a scenic display and any other cars that don't mind being outside we put in the lot. My two/three vehicles will be 'outside cars' for sure.
I'd like to get as many vehicles as possible involved, even non-Falcons. Who all is thinking of showing up with vehicles? I'd like to get at least one good sedan and one coupe.
Good possibility of doing a run from the convention center in Collinsville (just across the river in Illinois) back to St. Louis for a group picture by the Arch, some media attention, maybe some other photo ops and then back to Collinsville. I'd like to swarm an Outback and shock the hell out of them...

Now THAT brings up a mental image that should be unforgettable. If you've never had dinner in full costume I highly recommend it. Be prepared for strange looks and even stranger questions. After leaving a reenactment, it became a unit tradition to stop at a Sonny's barbecue or a Cracker Barrel still in full kit (no muskets but I always wore my sidearm). And yes, we smelled BAD. The restaurant people never said anything and treated us like any other patron. The touristy-types would usually just stare and occasionally asked questions. One time some fellow with a NYC accent asked my Sergeant why he was dressed up in the funny clothes. Sarge replied with a straight face that the "funny clothes" were standard battle dress and the local Militant Amish was on maneuvers and we were a Recon unit on dinner break.

MITCH: I might have the Interceptor at least running by then. I'd seriously consider driving it, or at least trailering it. I'd also consider caravaning with Doug if he's game.

That would definately make for a great road trip not to mention meeting up with you guys (some for a second time). I'm hoping to have a better tow vehicle by then as well as a decent trailer (enclosed). I won't be able to make any concrete plans until early spring though.
