100th Anniversary of Flight is Today
102 years of flight is it not?. I heard about an Italian inventor(I think) you built and flew a plane a couple of years befor the wright brothers however, is was covered up in the history books to make it look like America did it first.
there as a TV show about where some students and engineers built a replica and it flew really well. All documented, for real.
I will try and find a web link on it and post it.

100th Anniversary of Flight is Today
You may be referring to the first powered glider that made flight.
The Wrights did two things in aviation first. They were the first to figure out how to make controlled flight and the first to prove powered manned flight. The basic systems they designed are still in used today to control airplanes. The Discovery channel did air a program that detailed the Wright replica buildup by students and engineers.
Several of us saw that actual replica when it was on display in Dearborn. The replica did fly..repeatedly, just not on the day it was supposed to. I surmise it has something to do with the plane and wing fabric being wet, which increased the weight.
