Regarding # 15, there were XAGT's and XBGT's, but no XCGT's as far as i know. The cool XC model was the Cobra. You can get XB's with most of the GT options, or retrofit as need be. The significant parts (for me) included the side flutes, GS or GT hood, and the dash. I got a '75 John Goss Special, which had most of what I needed. As it turns out, I may be getting another XB for an Interceptor and restomodding the Gossie.

I wouldn't trash a perfectly good GT to make an Interceptor, but a basket case, or a base model 500 or Fairmont would be a good choice. Bronze 21 is getting a solid 6 cyl car for his project, and he'll be able to get whatever he needs to make his Interceptor.

XA's have a different nose than XB's. I'd get an XB, if you're going the Interceptor route. And fiberglass hoods are becoming available, so you don't have to trash a perfectly good snorkle nose by cutting an opening for the blower.

Once you get approved for the Yahoo club, a whole new world of info will open up for you. All your questions will be answered in the minutest detail, and you'll have no problem sourcing parts. Great bunch of people...

OOOOOOh! 'Glass bonnets?! Where...Where!...where! That way I can reduce the weight some more and get two: One for when I get the blown 429 put in and have to cut the rectangle out, and one for now, so I can put the Baldwin Motion cowl induction scoop on like the Yellow Interceptor (and the Black when it was for sale). Are we looking at the $200 - $400 price range? Lemme know!

I think Troy from madmaxcars was almost ready with the molds. I forget the prices right now, but there was a generous trade-in allowance for a straight metal hood. I'll ask and get the prices.

#2 The front end rebuild kit is the same as 70-71 Torino/Montego/cyclone,71-73 Mustang/Cougar.

#7 The 9" rear is the same dimension as 70-71 Torino/Montego/Cyclone.The spring pads are even correct.Mustang/Cougar rears have different pad placement.

# 13 the front spindles are the same as 70-71 Torino/Montego/Cylone,71-73 Mustang/Cougar,70-77 Maverick/Comet,76-79 Granada/Monarch.All you have to do is change the anchor brackets (the piece that holds the caliper to the spindle).

These are some of the important answers,Sorry don't have time for more, going to go DRIVE my Max car for the first time in five month!Bill

Hey Mitch and everyone else. Troy is almost ready with those fiberglass or carbon fiber hoods. We'll post'em on madmaxcars.com when the final product is ready for distribution. I'd much rather cut up a aftermarket hood than a good original steel one any day!

We got fibreglass hoods ready to ship today. Both Glass and Carbonfibre. :)

They have been available on our site for about 18 months, prices are there to. :)

http://www.aussiexport.com go to the parts section, then accessories and fibreglass, all the body kits and ALL the coupe panels are available. :)

As Terry said, The Glass ones are much nicer to cut a hole in, unless you can find a steel bonnet that has already been chopped than you shouldn't feel so bad, lol.

Questions about Ford Falcons and parts for them...

[div]Hey Craig and all[/div]
[div]To answer all those questions in 1 go sorry if I go over whats been said, but I figured I would put it all together:[/div]
[div] [/div]
[div]1. What kind of brake pads do you use on the 4 wheel disk brake cars? Can you use mustang or some other brakes, or does it have to have Falcon brakes? The Aussie Falcons have there own brakes, in fact 2 different types. Some have PBR and others have GIRLOCK, the GIRLOCK was a factory option for better brakes as they have much larger pad surface area. Unfortunately new pads are not available in the US.

2. Tie rods and linkage.... How easy is it to get parts to rebuild the front end? Are the parts availible in the US? Again Most of the Aussie Falcons parts are unique, there are some parts that interchange and we are currently compiling a US parts Interchange list. The suspension parts like ANY of the parts for these Aussie cars is only an email and 10 days away. So the distance from here to there really isn't that bad, any of the importers/exporters like myself will be able to get you the parts quick, so don't stress to much about these cars being from the other side of the world. Complete Suspension kits are available though. a COMPLETE NEW suspension kit from Pedders, so lots of Eurethane bushes your looking at about US$1000 Thats EVERYTHING though. Were talking tie rods, springs, shocks, all bushes, leaf spring pads, pitman arm, idler arm, sway bar bushes, etc, etc. So probably not worth trying to convert to US based suspension. There is also aftermarket suspension kits available that convert your car to strut type suspension and also rack and pinion steering conversions. They are a little pricey but VERY worth while.[/div]
[div]

3. What about window glass? This includes all windows, including windshield. If it gets busted out for some reason, can I replace it easily? Again parts have to come from Australia, but you can get ALL NEW glass EXCEPT the rear window. NEW side glass is around US$500 and a front windscreen NEW is around US$150.

4. Rear quarter panels... How easy is it to come across these? I know that you can get front fenders from overseas, but what about the other panels, repair panels? Rear 1/4s, good luck, lol. They are near impossible to find new ones, so I suggest only buying a car that has good rear 1/4s. If they get bent, most good panel shops will be able to fix them (with in reason). Expect a good used rear 1/4s to be around US$1000 each, maybe less if we find a car that is too rusty to fix but has good 1/4s we can cut off. We have 1 left and 1 right in stock at the moment so they are available if ever needed (god forbid, lol).

5. GT steering box. I read that the GT is 4 turns lock to lock. Are these on most cars and if not, how easy is it to find one, and is it a direct bolt in? Yes it's a direct bolt in, and they are pretty easy to find. Most guys seam to go for the Power Steering option in which the steering is pretty light then. The GT manual box is very good and I recommend them if you plan on driving the car hard.

6. GT dash with the Speedometer that reads both KPH and MPH. I have heard that these are out there. Having a car in the US, do you need them for it to be legal? And if not what do you do about figuring out how fast you are going without doing some math as you are driving down the road? Can you find these dashes with the speedometer? MPH dashes are easy to fit. The GT dash configuration came in 4 different types. 7000rpm/ 140MPH, 8000/140MPH, 7000/140MPH/240KPH, 7000,240KPH. Which ever one you want can be fitted to the car. I would suggest the 7k/140MPH as the best option as they are the easiest to find. You can have your choose as you doin't require MPH to be legal.

7. Rear ends. I know that you can put in a ford 9" rear, but is this a standard part? I.E. can you bolt up any ford 9", from lets say a mustang, or are there mods you need to make to make it fit? The 9" diffs were a factory option and standard on all 351 Falcons upto 1978. They are a unique width for the Aussie Falcons, but you can fit one out of any US car that had leaf springs. You will need to grind off the leaf spring pads and re-weld them in the correct location. Best option buy a car with a 9" already fitted. Also a good upgrade option is the Ford Explorer 8.8" as it will bolt in (after moving leaf spring pads) and offers 12.5" disc brakes.

8. GT traction bars. I saw pics of this, but am curious about how it bolts up. Is this something you can put on any falcon, or are there mods you must make to have it fit and bolt up? You can bolt the traction bars to any 9", but not many bodies had the hole in the chassis to bolt them to. You CAN drill the chassis in the right location and weld a nut in place, I have seen it done and does the job well. Traction bars are available, but be sure to get the right ones, they came in 2 different lengths. 1 for XA/XB GTs and longer for Landau. Don't get the Landau bars, go with the GT ones.

9. I read somewhere on here that with a ford engine from oz, the intake manifold is different than the us counterpart. Is this true? Or can any USA part be bolted up to a OZ V8 and vice versa? The Aussie Falcon V8s are a Cleveland, so MOST parts are interchangeable with the 351M and 400M motors. A good source of aftermarket performance parts is the Pantera guys. Any Pantera shop deals in Cleveland engine parts. Just don't tell them it's not for a Pantera or they will usually snob you, lol.

10. Does the offset wheels really wear out the wheel bearings faster? And if so, are the wheel bearings innerchangable with USA parts. I.E. can you find wheel bearings in the US that would fit perfectly? Maybe off a mustange or torino? The wheel Bearings in the Aussie 9" are different to the US and are not available over there. The extra offset of the Interceptor rims would wear them a little more, but I havn't heard of them wearing out excessively quick.

11. Which tranny is better as far as longevity and abuse it can withstand? A 4 spd toploader, or a borg warner? Are these tranny's different than there USA counterparts? What do they mean when they say single rail 4 speed? Is this a toploader or a borg? A single rail is a Borg Warner. You don't want one, lol. Honestly a Single rail BW will last ok behind a 302 or maybe a stock 351 and will take some abuse for a while, like maybe 12 months if your not TOO harsh on it. Go for a toploader, They are cheap enough and will old up to pretty much anything. Another good thing about have a car with a top loader fitted is that you can upgrade to the Tremec T5 with no hassles, same bellhousing, same tailshaft, same clutch, etc. Just swap the boxes over. The Aussie Top loaders are the same as the US, so if you bought a car without a top loader you caould fit one over there at any time. MAKE sure you get a small block Cleveland bellhousing, lots will be big block as most 351M and 400M blocks are big block bolt pattern for the bell housing.

12. What about bell housing for the enging to tranny? Is this a special for OZ or is it the usual standard that is commonly found in the US? I.E. if I crack mine, would I be able to replace it with one from the US, or do I have to order one from down under? I guess I partly answered this above, as long as the bell housing you get is for a small block Clevo than your fine. Oh and it is to suit the box you have.

13. Is there a kit to convert the brakes over to, lets say a mustang disc brakes? Or if not a kit, can you do it anyways just using some other ford brakes? Has anyone done this. What about brake rotors and or drums? Are these only aussie, or can you use an american counterpart? I think 1 or 2 of the guys in the US have converted there brakes to US items, but at this stage I'm not sure what. I will try to find out for you. The Aussie ones work well though. Have a look at my site, in the parts section, there is a brake upgrade kit, these are your BEST option. :)

14. What is different about the xa, xb and xc dashboards? Since they are all the same body car, (essentialy) cant they all interchange easily? I heard that you have to modify to go from a xc body to a xb dash. What is the story on this. XA/XB dashes are the same (basically). It's only minor cosmetic differences like XAs have a smooth intrument panel, XBs have a texuted one. XCs have a completely different dash, much like a 73? Torino, it is symetrical. Yes the XCs do require some mods to accept an XA/XB dash, but it is doable with a bit of planning and effort.

15. Was the GT only in the xb model? The reason why is pointed out in question 14. GTs were available in XR, XT, XW, XY, XA & XB. They stopped before XC due to fuel crisis, and a lot of other issues at the time. The XB GT was significantly down tuned from the XA though. There is nothing in a GT that can't be replicated. So the value is purely in the compliance plate and body number.

This is incorrect, the 1970,1971 Torino housing is exactly the same as the XA,XB,XC rear except for the brake line splitter(the Torino is on the right side of the pumpkin, the Falcon on the left) right down to the spring perches.just ask Bill Albright,I sold him a Torino one and he bolted it right in,no problems. The interesting thing is that the 1966,1967 Fairlane 9" is a narrower housing but the perches are in the same location,so you can REALLY get some meat under there.Bill

Torinoscj yes your right, I forgot about those ones. But lots of other 9"s will fit if you move the spring perches.

I don't have the exact measurements of the Falcon 9" on me, but I wouldn't be suprised if there was a couple of others that fitted. But for the effort of moveing the spring perches, it may be more worth while then hunting down a 70-71 Torino, especially if your buying it from a wrecking yard where they are all just pilled up and you don't know what there out of. :)

Thanks for pointing that out though, I had forgotten about them. :)

Cam,

How 'bout the rear end Jason is holding for me? Did that come out of a ZF or something? Will it bolt right in and do I need to put in a stock proportioning valve for the rear disc brakes? What's the gearing? If there are two different brake suppliers, are there problems with having different front and rear brakes? Do you like Tim Tams? How many more questions can I ask before you scream...? LOL!

Thanks a lot for sharing your wealth of knowledge here and elsewhere. Sure helps us furriners understand our cars better. You too, Bill.

When does the interchange manual come out? Will a '73 Mustang radiator shroud fit the Falcon? Final question: How much are wiring harnesses (front and rear), how good are they, or should I just make my own?
