That if the role of Max was played by a woman that would mean having to remove Jesse, since she'd have a husband. Also, this would change how Max's family would come across the Toecutter.

But since this would be a remake, it be a good idea to not follow the original story to the point that it would be predictable. It should be in honor of the original, just like using modern cars with MPF-based paint jobs instead of the same 70's muscle cars.

For the role of Jim Goose, how about David James Elliott (I), who plays Commander Harmon Rabb Jr. in J.A.G.? Or Trevor Goddard who plays Commander Mic Brumby in J.A.G.?
