From The New York Times: An oral history of 'Fury Road'
Re: From The New York Times: An oral history of 'Fury Road'
No, just the last 3 months of the shoot.
George Miller officially handed him over directorial duties, he even rough cut some action scenes because George had no idea where the actors should be or what the action even was. Actors didn't even want to deal with George in those last 3 months because he was 'not there'. The person who was given those duties worked 100 hour weeks, lost half of their original contract due to on-set duties colliding and at the end they were never paid for their work, they were not credited and they were even ostracized on purpose so the truth would never see the light of day. But that person has receipts just in case people say none of this happened. The entire situation is unfortunate but that's what it was like on the set, at least in that particular moment of filming.

There's parts in Fury Road where it feels like another director was in charge because of tonal shifts. I wonder if he did those parts.

It saddens me a lot to learn more about that. I have a great deal of respect for George Miller as a filmaker, as a storyteller and also as a human being. I'm enormously surprised that KMM behaved like this. I don't know what is more shocking: acting like that and let people unpaid while doing extra-job or the ostracizing aspect of all of this...Taipan wrote:No, just the last 3 months of the shoot.

This means Miller was almost half of the entire time absent during the Namibia shoot in 2012.??
As far as I know Fury Road was filmed in sequence, so some of the following set-photos wouldn't exist if that's the case…

Yeah, plus I have never heard anywhere that he had a heart attack, or any problems like that.Immortan Joecutter wrote:I don't know, man.Taipan wrote:

I am only relaying information from very trusted sources. I have no business in making stuff up for the sake of it.Immortan Joecutter wrote:I don't know, man.Taipan wrote:

When I said that Miller 'wasn't there' I didn't mean he wasn't physically there.
He didn't have a heart attack on set. He had a mental breakdown. Of course he's in the pictures, but it doesn't exactly show what was going on.
I fully trust my sources, it's first hand and no names will be revealed publicly as I promised.

I didn't mean to question you Taipan. It's just I'm a huge Miller fan and have never heard anything about that. If something like that happened you'd think it would have come out by now.Taipan wrote:I am only relaying information from very trusted sources. Re: From The New York Times: An oral history of 'Fury Road'
It is no secret that this must have been a very tough shoot, I suppose for almost everyone involved.
Charlize Theron said in an interview that she was very unhappy during filming Fury Road, completely isolated in the desert for six months with nothing around like restaurants, bars, shops or even other people.
Under these circumstances it's not surprising that some of the crew had some sort of downtime/breakdown.
It must have been very stressful, not unlike the current pandemic situation everyone in the world is going through now…
...and he said, the Revenant was tough to shoot...
