We already know what happens so where's the surprise? Show it in a flashback or dream sequence while moving the character forward at least. I can't remember one prequel that wasn't a huge letdown partly because you know the ending before the thing starts. The time for her "origin" story is passed. If you really sit and think you'd realize how unnecessary it is. Leave that cheese for the comics.

not necessarily so. The first prequel I ever saw was MAD MAX 1.
The first Max movie for me was Road Warrior in 1982 and a few months later I had the chance to watch MAD MAX 1.
Of course I knew his 'origin story' from the opening narration but at that time I was desperate to see
what happend before he became the ROAD WARRIOR we all know.

I think it depends on how you are invested in a character and how good the story is you wanna tell.

X-Men First Class is a good example of a prequel that works, a prequel has the opportunity to tell a very captivating story if done correctly ... Casino Royale (the new one) is still held up as being one of the best Bond films, and that's also a prequel ;)

Bingo, good examples... (I like X-Men First Class because of Kevin Bacon  )

Casino Royale (partly) showed Bond before he got the Licence to kill in a ruthless and uncompromising way
and that was very refreshing to see.
By now we all know Furiosa is a badass, but a prequel has the chance to present her in an even tougher way
doing cool (I mean really cool) stuff.
A prequel also could tell the story of Immortan Joe and his rising to become the leader of the Citadel.

While I certainly wouldn't say no to a Furiousa based prequel, I imagine Miller has his sights set bigger than the tiny portion of the new Mad Max universe we've seen.

X-Men First Class and Days of Future Past spun off into a whole new universe, erasing the events of the previous three X-Men movies and restarting the franchise in a new timeline. Kind of a bad example.
Casino Royale, like every James Bond movie, is another standalone movie in a different timeline. In fact, we discussed on this forum how Fury Road is only tangentially connected to the original Mad Max trilogy much like James Bond. If they want to do a standalone Furiosa thing with no direct connections to Fury Road, that would be interesting and new.

A proper example would be the 2011 prequel to The Thing. It literally ends right where John Carpenter's 1982 movie begins. And it was awful.

Earlier you mentioned Mad Max 1 as a prequel. Well, for you obviously because you saw it after Mad Max 2. But if Mad Max 2 was filmed first then George Miller and Byron Kennedy went back several years later to do his origin story it certainly would have been a very different movie.

I'd be cool with a Furiosa prequel, maybe something like gas runs constantly being hit and then Gastown being attacked by a big rival faction, even have Skrotus leading the armada in it since he's shown in the comics but he gets killed, Furiosa loses her arm, War Rig gets built etc etc

There are a lot of options and things they could do but I can't imagine a lot of people would be happy with a Mad Max film that doesn't have Max in it.

What you're saying is not correct. As far as I remember only Days of Future Past messed up with the X-Men timeline.
X-Men First Class told the origin story of Charles and Erik and of course it is a good example of a well made prequel.

Prequel or not, there are good movies and not so good movies. The Thing is definitely...

...not so good.

AW!

i didnt hate the prequel thing as much as i hated whatever the hell alvarez's evil dead was supposed to be. it doesnt take much to piss me off, but i was already fuming by the after credit scene that did absolutely nothing for the 2 hours of torture porn i just watched.

i would probably skip out on a furiosa movie. there wasnt a whole lot about her that interested me. the same could be said for the people in the gas town from road warrior or the kids, had they gotten their own sequels.

I'm a greedy biffer and want prequels and sequels. More Mad max universe please. For me there was 'before Fury road' and 'after Fury road'. I want much more of it right in my face:OD

I fear that Furiosa's new beginning would be ended by a surviving band of warboys perhaps led by a capable lieutenant getting around or through the mountains and basically beseiging the Citadel. Waters being splashed about everywhere and the warboys have the machinery while the wretches and the Wives/Mothers/Furiosa don't. Immortan Joe did it so his descendants could as well:O)
