It's way too early in the game to be pronouncing this film a fiasco. Yes, these machines look a bit over-the-top, but wildly improbable vehicles are not completely alien to the Mad Max universe. Think about the Lone Wolf Machine driven by Papagallo. Think about the vehicle driven by The Humungous. Are these new designs really all that far-removed from those ones?

I totally agree, I can't remember the term used in the Road Warrior screenplay but both those vehicles were supposed to be as wild as the budget allowed.

We also have to appreciate that, regarding the Mad Max universe, many of us have been filling in the blanks ourselves for decades now. So we all have varying ideas of what is and isn't realistic. For all we know Fury Road may be much closer to Millers original concept than any of the first three films.

At least the Gigahorse is conceivable as a working vehicle, it could be so much worse, look at the nonsense vehicles in films like Deathrace 2000.

I agree with flightsuit here, we can't tell how the movie is going to be with just a few pics of some of the vehicles. Honestly, I'm more worried about the elephant in the living room; which is all these big budget mega movies nowadays are 3-D PG-13 movies made for tweeners and the international crowd, who'll watch any comic book type flicks. If Miller can somehow avoid this trap I'll truly be shocked and awed.

Hopefully MM4 will at least be better than Top Gun 2.

Its not just the Gigahorse thats worrying me. Every pic ive seen of the vehicles so far has been one dissapointment after another, dont get me started on that merc plonked on top of a big rig chassis. No amount of dressing up is gonna make that look any good. This whole direction they are taking is just wrong, more akin to Space hunter. Been checking out some of Brendan McCarthy's work and its all a bit trippy for my liking. If he's had any real input with the script i really am worried.

They talked and talked and talked!
But nothing could stem the avalanche, their world crumbled, the forums exploded!

At least we now know that 3 of the 4 photos on the first page of this topic are from the Gigahorse...

Ok guys I can't keep reading this stuff about the "Brendan McCarthy" concept drawing of the giga-horse.

In reality the drawing was done by Aden Jacobi who is an artist for Street Machine magazine. Here is the quote from the magazine article itself "We've also heard a bunch of rumours about the car, and from that info, our artist Aden Jacobi has knocked up what we reckon is a pretty close illustration of what the real vehicle - known as the Gigahorse - will look like."

So McCarthy may very well have designed this but the illustration everyone is refering to is not his work.

I'm actually more disapointed with the buggys than any of the other vehicles that I've seen.

That's actually footage showing the shooting of Death Race : Inferno, not Fury Road. Nice find nonetheless (although someone tacked a self promotion piece on at the end), thanks!
And Cundalini wants his hand back!

Peter Barton wrote: I don't disagree. Although it may still be a little too early to tell.

I was stoked back when they had the original press event. Not just for the Interceptor on display, but also with the ratrod there - it looked exactly like the type of vehicle everyone loved from the first two films. The promise looked like a bunch of very cool cars, and action most like the Road Warrior.

What we're seeing pics of now is making the whole thing look more like a monster truck rally. To me, this stuff looks overblown, and just does not look as cool as more standard custom rides.
Peter has absolutely nailed it here.

Regarding the car designs I've seen so far (excluding the Rat Rod).
Neill Blomkamp, the genius director of District 9, was discussing his visual approach to rifle weapon design for the Aliens and Government troops.
All of the incredible outlandish and exciting conceptual guns they made for the film didn't work in camera tests. They looked like ridiculous clumsy props when being handled by actors.

In real life weapons have evolved ergonomically over the last century. But the balance between the stock/grip and barrel has always been the same. The moment he moved too far from this ergonomic balance it looked like a cheap prop.

For me the Gigahorse is that principle in full flight.
Even IF a post apocalyptic tribe could muster the resources and engineering to build it -
Its balance and handling would be so impractical and awkward that I'd be surprised if they could get it do anything remotely exciting on camera.
Its flying the the face of automotive evolution.

I'm reminded of the production stories from Thunderdome.
Tina Turners monster truck when through more diffs than the crew did cigarettes.
