Re: Wasteland Weekend 2011
Hi,
Sorry for the lack of updates here. Karol and I are still kind of recovering from Wasteland Weekend and catching up on all of the "real life" stuff we let slide for a few weeks while we were in overdrive getting ready.
I've been meaning to share photos and stuff here but I just haven't had the time. Our facebook pages (both the original www.facebook.com/wastelandweekend and the new fan-created "watelanders unite" page) have been so busy with people posting memories, shoutouts, photos, and plans for the future that it's all Karol and I can do to keep up with the posts there.
The photos from this year's event have been amazing. Most of them are on facebook, but there are some great ones on flickr and some other places and we still have some of our photographers who haven't handed in their sets yet. In addition, we had a documentary crew there filming EVERYTHING in HD, but it's going to take them a long time to edit down all their footage (who knows, they might even have enough for a feature length documentary).
Overall, the event was a huge success and everyone seemed to agree that it was a big step up from last year in almost every way (yes, there were a few negatives, but the positives far outweighed them). We still have improvements to make, but if we can learn lessons from this year the way we did from last year we'll be in very good shape.
We basically just had more and better of just about everything. And so many volunteers devoted an enormous amount of time and energy to making it happen. I want to write up a whole recap of the event soon, like I did last year, while it's still on my mind, but I just have a lot of pressing deadlines that I need to deal with first.
We definitely have to get you out for the next one. Frankly, every Mad Max fan that is able needs to come to Wasteland Weekend. There is simply nothing else like it in the world. This is the year we really succeeded in creating a 360 degree living Mad Max world for three days, and with any luck it's only going to keep getting better.
Here are just a few links for photos:

Here is a second official video. This is a brief one, focusing on just the stuff that is directly Mad Max-related. (Features images from both Wasteland Weekend 2010 and 2011).
