BETWEEN "MAD MAX 1" and "MAD MAX 2"
Marauders,
I know we talked about that for years. Don't blame me, I'm just a fan(atic), do you catch it, fellas? Last day I was thinking to make some corrections to the section called "VILLAINS TO THE MAX" and the whole chronology i'm working to... I STILL have doubts about the Mad Max history after all this time!
I mean, in MAD MAX 1 Max is surely 24 years old. He just CAN'T BE 22 or 21 years old. He's a trained policeman, he get a family, a son! I think he's 24 years old. I suppose since Jesse and Sprog's death and the following act of vengeance there is a "leap" of 6 YEARS in the narration, and we come to the ROAD WARRIOR movie. It passed about 6 years from the events of the first movie. If you place MM in 1997 as I use to do, RW is consequencially setted in 2003.
I can't believe from MM1 and MM2 there is such a short amount of time in between - MILLER stated it was about 3 years. WRONG! It happened civilization's collapse, for Christs sake: it took about 2 years and half. People like Pappagallo and Zetta needed more time to build up the Refinery. The Armalite gangs evoluted themself in what we know as "MARAUDERS" - it was a long process. Finally, i'm pretty sure Max was 30 years old in RW.
As far as concerned the quantum leap between MM2 and MM3, I think there was JUST ONE strategical nuclear strike to SYDNEY in 2000 (3 years BEFORE "ROAD WARRIOR"), following a small nuclear winter which involved the Coast section. AUNTY survived to the fall-out and became a gang leader, escaping in the Wasteland - as stated by Miller himself. Towards 2004, after the MM2 time, it happened the nuclear war between the powers, but Australia was marginally touched by it. People was still scavenging in the Outback.
After a BIG-SCALE Nuclear winter which dried up the world (so Australia became a whole desertified country) the gasoline-dependent Marauders era ended, and Aunty began to buld up Bartertown. The winter ended after 4 years...
Then, the Thunderdome movie, placed in 2018. Max is 45 years old... (TOO MUCH OLD? Let me know...)
What do you think about my chronology? Do you like it? Is there something wrong?

BETWEEN "MAD MAX 1" and "MAD MAX 2"
It's a pity they chose not to specifically indicate a timeframe within the context of the movies themselves.
I haven't read the novelizations other than Beyond Thunderdome, but I'm told they do make mention of dates in the first two.
But as ALL MFP cars in the novels were Black, and Aunty rode to Thunderdome on a Flying Fox, I think the Books can be discounted.
(I tend to look at movie novelizations as "Authorized Fanfics" anyway)
But as it is, Miller left these movies with a LOT of room for speculation & opinions.
Which tends to make things FUN on internet discussion forums, does it not?
But, down to business.
I turned 18 in 1986. I had dreams of becoming a Cop (largely due to Max) so I went to the local police offices and checked into it.
If memory serves, I believe the academy was six months.
In THEORY, Max could have been a Rookie Cop by Age 19. In the World of Mad Max, two years is more than enough time to build up a lot of experience.
As for the Family... Well, I've know people that became parents at the age of 16.
Twenty-Two years of age, is not too young to have a family. (although younger than I'd say is WISE, but that's just an opinion)
As for the rest of the timeline.. Well, my opinion differs. I've been through my opinion on the timeline a few times, so I'll summarize.
The first movie was released in 1979 with an opening line of "A few years from now".
To Me, "A few years" is.. not twenty.
I have yet to be convinced that these movies begin at the turn of the Millenium.
Mad Max...... 1982 (Based on Vehicles, clothing styles, haircuts, music, technology)
Mad Max 2 (Road Warrior)....... 1984 (based on Above as a starting point, plus the contition of the vehicles & Equipment)
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome..... 2000 (Based on the "Fifteen years after Road Warrior" quote from the Film Magazine)

Foxtrot,
I don't agree, but I like the idea that your timeline is a POSSIBLE Max scenario. That's part of the coolness of the movies...
Hey, anyway 2 years is such a short amount of time for a POCSYCLIPSE!
THE DOUBT about my TIMELINE:
Two nuclear winters? One after the nuclear strike to SYDNEY in 2000 (small, which involved the COAST) ONE after ROAD WARRIOR (large scale). Can't stand to it. Surely AUNTY survived by the blast in some ways. Surely she became a gang leader! Surely, CRACK IN THE EARTH developed itself in 18 years and not 15 years (2000 - 2018, the THUNDERDOME TIME)

With max being too young to be a BRONZE, maybe the whole training thing is hurryed because of the lack of people wanting to join. Also a war would take the older types away ,so the next gen would be younger so the gaps could be filled.
i dont know if this makes sence a bit drunk from the pub.

Maybe Miller didn,t excpect that more than 20 years after making the first MM movie, people would be discussing max his age etc,if he would have know he probably made it all a little bit more understandable?
