On the zoomies,you could get one of those new electric cut out dumps and have the rear exiting pipes for street use and switch to the zoomies for shows and events.Do you think that would fly with your nazi rego guys?Cheers,Bill

Actually no... they would then still class it as exiting from the side of the vehicle and would say to you "how do we know you wont turn the bypass off while driving?"

There is the option of "club rego" which puts restrictions on where and when you can drive a car, but I think the rules are a bit relaxed in that category, I'll have to look into it more.

I am very surprised at all the restrictions I hear about in austrailia for modified cars. Here in canada you can do pretty much what you want as long as you have legal headlights and turn signals and drive you car. Right hand drive or otherwise.

The reasons have been discussed quite a few times...

But it boils down to the fact that because of the increasing amount of morons on the road in the past 15yrs or so that polititions create new laws as knee jerk reactions to peoples stupidity.
Because we have a small population base which is now more or less centralized in our capitol cities, it has become a very visible issue. Typically its carried out by the 20yr olds with little intelligence, high on drugs.

We also have little to no voice politically, as we dont have a group to represent the real "car enthusiast" and if we did it wouldnt matter a damn as there wouldnt be enough of us to make enough noise.

The rules restricting the Interceptor are there for "safetys" sake in essence:
The blower: Its height is a visibility issue. It is also an issue if you hit a pedestrian.

The side pipes: The law states they must exit behind the rear axle, or above the height of the cab (as they do in trucks).
This is to stop exhaust fumes entering the cabin and kill you!

The oversized rear rims: 8in is the legal max in all states for a Falcon Coupe. You are only allowed to run a rim 1in wider then the widest rim offered by the Factory on that particular car.
Simply because wider rims will put excess strain on the axles and will have a greater chance of breaking. Once the axle breaks your tryre goes on its merry way and may end up hitting a pedestrian or another vehicle.
In some states you can over come this by fitting float hubs and getting an engineers report so you can legally fit 9 or 10in rims.

How long is a piece of string?
You cant really budget for any sort of rebuild, as there is no such thing.
You dont know how good or bad the base car is until you strip it.
How far do you want to go with it?
Powder coat all the suspension?
Complete rebuild of the whole car from the ground up?
Is the engine any good?
Do you want you car to be rebuilt as a GT? or just a plain Falcon?

You can roughly estimate items such as the kit, wheels and rims, the blower set up, interior, driveline and suspension etc.. but the body work you really cant.

I decided on fake zommies for a number of reasons,mostly so i dont gas my kids along with anyone else in the car if im sitting at lights etc, also if the cops dont like them 2 bolts and there off the car,the exhaust sounds great so im happy with my choice,as for the cost of a base car it depends on current market prices,and availability of a kit plus parts,i gave up counting the dollars about a year ago, it became a case of if the parts came up for the car, i paid and moved on to the next part of the project,theres plenty of help out there for serious builders who are determine to create that dream, as for registering my replica,ive had a chat with a few of the boys in blue, they seem open minded about a BOB,i will taking my chances when its on the road,i go to cruises near brisbane,there are quite a few blown cars that attend,it boils down to the law at the end of the day if your going to act like a hoon also its not a fact i will driving the car regularly,cruises,the odd car show,and the 1/4 mile for the fun of it.

I went to see the blower case today as its being polished,should have it back by the w/end,im also working on the roof spoiler and attaching it to the car, so i will post some update pics of the car soon.

Thank you Bob. I certainly see most of your points. Thank you for your reply. Here we have very few issues that relate to muscle cars overall. It's rice burners street racing the is the real issue generally. I understand the issues custom changes can cause but overall like you say the vast majority are responsible people and so a few ruin it for the many. I really appreciate your response. If i was to buy a fairlane 72-74 for a base unit in decent condition what do you think this would cost? Your project is really taking shape. If the pics I am seeing are up to date then it looks like the engine is in. thank you again. Dan.

fwiw, exhaust bypasses or switches are now outlawed in NSW.
