We really need to do a formal announcement here, but since we've been so busy this week and that hasn't happened let me be the first to officially announce on this board the next huge Mad Max event - Wasteland Weekend.

Full details on wastelandweekend.com but in a nutshell, members of this board and some others are in the midst of putting together a followup to Road Warrior Weekend 2009 (run by some of the same people as last year's event, but not all of them).

It will happen THIS YEAR, in October. I'm helping out with it as well. More to come. Start your engines.

I'm cautiously optimistic that I can make it... very cautious. I'm going to start working overtime now so hopefully I'll have enough $$$ to pay for all the guzzoline I'll need to make it there and back.

Just to be clear - you DO NOT NEED A CAR to attend. Though it does make it a lot more fun.

But you DO need a costume. Most of the people who came out to last year's event did not have special cars.

Yeah, armourer: No special car necessary. But I know how you feel, 'cause I really wanted to build/strip a car for last year's event. Reality got in the way, so I built the demon bike on the cheap.

Dave: I'm sure a lot of us would contribute to the HMF (Humungus Machine Fund) like last year, so start packing. Call it an appearance fee.

I appreciate it, though I truly feel like a scumbag for having to ask other people for funds. I'm big on pulling my own weight. I just feel like crap about it.

First off, totally on board with this event. Our small San Diego crew that made it out last year are joining up with some other wastelanders we met there(the paramilitary zebra group) for the event to crank out some cool stuff for our campsite and whatever else we can manage. There were five of us(not including many other San Diego people that made it) that went to the event, with about 20-30 more that found out about it after the fact that were sorry they missed it. So I'm sure this event will be rocking with some proper marketing and planning. I mean, how rad was the last event and there was seemingly a mediocre amount of press?

Secondly, I know I'd be happy to donate some cash to have the humongous vehicle or others drive out to the wasteland. May not be a lot, but I think others would be more than happy to do so, so don't feel bad! If it adds to the whole of the event, I'm on board. No strings attached at all!

Really looking forward to it and willing to help however I can to get the word out.

Too soon... too soon... As previously stated I will not show unless I got my own wastelander vehicle. And since it'll have to be big, black, old and V8 it's going to take me at least till 2011 to get the cash together...

But I am thrilled it seems to be ongoing... Bring it on, I'll be at 2011... living like max for a weekend is going to be FUN.
