help finding Interceptor publicity still from MM2

Post by Remember_lingerie? »

Folks:

1. Just found you. Glad to know I'm not alone, and that others out there understand why Premiere Magazine voted The Road Warrior as the 2nd best film of all time (Godfather was #1). Sick and tired of 'splaining Kurasawa, Leone, Boy and His Dog, ad naseum.

2. Circa 1999 the wallpaper on my PC (a desktop, no less) was a publicity still of the Interceptor from Road Warrior. High crane shot -- just the Interceptor parked on that gorgeous red earth of Broken Hill. IIRC it was in 2.35:1 ratio. That PC was 4 jobs ago, and that being the early days of the interweb, I've no bloody idea where I located the file.

I've looked EVERYWHERE. I NEED me some Interceptor.

Any leads, or, heaven help me, .jpgs?

Until then, yours in Post-Apocalyptic Splendor . . . .

As an anecdote of my bona fides. Xmas, 199X. . . whenever DVD players were first available in the States. My retard roommate comes home one night with a brand new DVD player -- US$500. He bought it from "Crazy Eddy" in downtown Los Angeles -- a shady electronics company that spent most of the late 90s embroiled in US stock fraud litigation.

Rent on our apartment was only US$700. Neither of drove a car that cost more than US$500. We lived in squalor, but at least we had a DVD player.

Problem? No media. In greater Los Angeles the Virgin Megastore in Hollywood was the only retailer who had *any* DVDs in stock. We went that night. Average prices were around US$30. We could only afford three.

There was no debate when we got home. No negotiation. No argument. There was only ONE film that would be the FIRST to spin in our new DVD player -- The Road Warrior.

By the time of the cut between the prologue and the film, when the 1.85:1 helicopter shot fades to black, and then pulls out from the blackness of the blower in 2.35:1 glory, we leaped and whooped like the Feral Kid.

The pic you describe does not ring any bells (I don't remember any "crane" shots in the publicity stills).

Was the car parked on the road, or just out in the open?

Was the car facing towards the camera, away from the camera, other?

Were there any actors, crew, etc in the pic - who?

Whew, it's been a while -- ten years in July, actually, so take the following with a grain or two. The composition of the shot was probably more background than Interceptor. I can't recall if it was roadway or bare earth, but I'm fairly certain there were no other objects in the shot.

I may be mistaken about the crane -- it could have been a flat shot if the road were slightly elevated from the camera. In terms of "feel" it was similar to the crane shot of the Interceptor when Max first finds the Gyro (even though that was a high shot at a steep angle) -- the enormity of the Wasteland.

I know the blower and the external tanks were all visible. I'm thinking facing toward the viewer with the nose at about 7-8 o'clock, but can't be certain.

Nada. That's what I loved so much about it -- as a still photo it was awesome. Like there were only two things in the whole world -- the Wasteland, and the Interceptor.

Any chance it's a screen cap of an alternate edit and/or preview and/or TV spot?

I keep kicking myself -- I'd taken a new job and had exactly 2 weeks to close out everything and relocate 500 miles. I never stopped to think how much I loved that wallpaper. Now and again I google it, but get nothing.

Then I stumbled upon you good folks . . . .

From what you are describing, it sounds very much like a shot I took when we had a car up at Broken Hill in 1999. I've just scanned around, and it doesn't currently appear to be part of the site anywhere at the moment (but I know I've displayed it before). I'll try to find the scan - that shot was old enough that the original was actually taken on film.

The other possibility (as Bad Cop says) is that it is a shot of Gordon Hayes' car, that was originally on max.org (which is no longer there). But from your follow up post, I don't think that's the shot. A lot of that material is now on maxrockatansky.org, although I just took a quick look, and can't easily find those shots either.

Either way, it doesn't sound like a publicity still from the film itself that you're describing.

Aha! I told you the composition was . . . epic.

I'll owe you a beer at least.

I'll look around for it on maxrockatansky.org. I'll also check my HD archives, but my company's network used a single central file-server. Unlikely that I archived any local data from my desktop, but worth searching. What're the odds that I have the *wrong* file named *interceptor.*? LOL.

That's why I like to ask people who know. And now that I've found you, well, nice to find like-minded folks.

And now, for your viewing pleasure, a screen cap with perhaps the most random, unlikely line of dialog ever, and one of my favorites:

My computer won't let me view all the pics on Roadwarrior forever.com, is there a place where I can find all those pics?

Hey Bad cop,

rockatansky4073 sent me some that he managed to save a while ago on his computer. If you PM him he'll probably do the same for you. I never actually saved them on my computer, but if he can't send them to you i'll find the email and send you the pics.

Ooh! Ooh! Me too, por favor!

I've gone through the archive on external HD1 -- no dice. Now I have to try to reinstall a couple of old *internal* HDs my IT department "replaced" (I pinched the old ones back when they weren't looking). If I can find it, of course, all y'all get it.
