The new location for the RW event is a California OHV "Fee Area" and has regulations that the previous location didn't... AND.. California is PRESSING the citation issue because of the state's lack of revenue...
I just wanna give my brothers a heads-up to save you some serious $$.. these fines are NOT cheap
(1) GLASS BOTTLES.. Don't bring them..Ticket is $125.00 to $250.00 depending on the officer. Think about this when picking out what beer you are gonna buy.. A GLASS BOTTLE IS AN INVITATION FOR THE PARK RANGER TO SEARCH YOUR ENTIRE CAMP. he WILL be watching thru binoculars for glass bottles... THIS GOES FOR GLASS WHISKEY BOTTLES ALSO...
(2) FIREWORKS..the ticket is $75.00.. If you light them off while the Rangers are still on the clock, they will come say hi.. might wanna wait till midnight or later.
(3) CAMP TRASH.. At a "Fee Area" , if it hits the ground, it's littering... If you don't keep you camp clean of litter, you will have a ranger in your cooler looking for glass bottles. Fine: $125.00
(4) your CAL OHV sticker.. This is the heftiest of fines, $300.00 worth. Never had to pay it myself, but MANY riding buddies have. The sticker is for ANY NON-REGISTERED VEHICLE that uses an OHV area. Basically, if it has no LEGAL license plates & DMV registration, and it's driven/ridden at the "Fee Area", it needs to have the sticker. Cost of the sticker is $30.00

FUCK the nanny state! I've lived in California for most of my life, but I would bail in a heartbeat. I would love to live in a free state, like Texas.

Well, I do live in Texas and yes we enjoy many great things like having our local government dictate everything we can do and how we do it. I did some research about the new campground and it looks like everything posted above is correct except about the vehicle situation. It's my opinion that this only applies to California residents only. Please see the link and tell me if I read this correctly.

BTW, Oklahoma is even more lax than Texas. They have no vehicle inspections!

Re: NEW EVENT LOCATION HEADS-UPS
Also, if I plan to make the drive out from Texas is there anyone in the Los Angeles/Bakersfield area near the campsite that can let me use their shower before I head back?

Re: NEW EVENT LOCATION HEADS-UPS
I know of these laws, not from research, but because I live 60 miles from Calif. and do almost all my OHV riding at California "Fee Areas"Alabaster wrote:I did some research about the new campground and it looks like everything posted above is correct except about the vehicle situation. I'm only throwing this out there to save you guys a $300.00 fine ~ Not for any other reason ~ I DO NOT work for the Cal. Parks Dept.
Let me clarify the sticker thing:
(1) It's ONLY for OHV's, not for highway vehicles or vehicles with state issued registrations & plates
(2) If you live in CA you need a CALIFORNIA RESIDENT "GREEN STICKER" for your OHV
(3) if you are from OUT-OF-STATE, you have to purchase a NON-RESIDENT OHV USE PERMIT STICKER to ride/drive in Calif OHV Areas. The cost $30.00 and the 2009 Sticker is PURPLE in color.
This is what the '08 NON-RESIDENT sticker looked like (below), the '09 is just a different color

The CALIFORNIA resident OHV "Green Sticker" looks like this:
