Hey Dan, how are going with fitting up the Torana wheel flares? From what I can tell they look like the correct shape although need to be reduced (cut down) to size significantly. Just a sneaking suspicion but I wonder if only front torana flares were used on the Bob and reversed (front left flare used for rear right wheel arch and vise versa etc..) like what is done when they rust out then replaced? If it aint too much of a hassle I may consider doing the same on mine.

cheers,
Mick.

umm... the BOB never used Torana flares. Nor did the yellow cars....
The kit supplied to Dan , had the wrong wheel arch flares...

Ah Ok, Peter B mentioned (on this site) that Torana SLR5000 wheel flares were used but heavily modified and after comparing photo's the inner shape of the flare seems to be the same. Just an observation but I could be wrong.

definitely talking about the coupe, I'm almost certain they are Torana SLR5000 flares cut down to fit. Being custom modified it would be difficult to get 100% correct but the curvature in the flares seems to be very similar.

Opps.... sorry forgot to reply.

Peter needs to update a few things onhere ...
No SLR flares were used in the BOB or yellow cars, even as a base for modification

That's not what the guy(Rod) who made/fit the flares told me when I met him at Scott's place! amongst other materials such as wire mesh and wood he said that Torana flares were the original base for the rear flares on the BoB! now I didn't ask him this it's what he told me during our relaxed and informal conversation, now 30 years is a long time for anyone to remember exactly what was what and if he's got it wrong then so have I but it's what he told me at that moment in time!

The rear flares have been the bigest nightmare for me.
i think they are a huge standout point which is what makes the car so unique.
I have experimented with many different ideas since starting. Torana flares will work to a certain degree but it depends how far you want to go.
I even tried playing around with a few different 4wd flares, cuting and joining and generally butchering things.
I am still nowhere with the rears but at the moment am planning to muck around with the ones that came with my so called "kit"
They weren't torana flares, more like gemini or simmilar 13 inch wheel car. Not even close to even fiting around the diameter of the 15x295x50 tires. I'll probably need to extend the length of these about 3 inches in the middle so the top part kind of straightens out a little. The hard bit is making them look good and symetrical.
It would be much easier to buy correct ready to go ones and i often think about doing so, but wheres the fun in that?
Dan
...sorta slow motion. he leaves the seat, goes through the windscreen, headfirst straight into the tree...right. and then, bounces back through the windscreen. by the time we got to him.. he was just sittin there trying to scream with his face ripped off......whats the matter?
